Ever want to throw it all up into the air and start again?

Where you're prepared to sacrifice chaos for a short time in exchange for something for the long term 🤔

What if the solution is close, much closer than you imagine.

That there are options, a plan and support to take you there?

Because you are worth it.

Get in touch.

Whatever you do, don't!

"Don't do that"
"Don't touch that"
"Don't press that button"

What happens when someone says these or similar?

Your mind does not process negatives directly, so it translates 'don't' as do in order to get to 'not' do!

It's a bit like thinking in 'reverse'

What are your 'don'ts' that you know you must face up to and do?

I was on a call earlier with someone who had to put a movie on, hand out emergency snacks, and confiscate a harmonica (yes a harmonica!) just 10 seconds before joining an online meeting.

If you are working through the summer holidays while managing work and family, July and August can feel less like a break and more like an Olympic sport, Heptathlon perhaps?

Do you plan or go with the flow? Going with the flow when you have work deadlines to hit and energetic kids in the house offers a serious challenge.

This is where the difference between being a thermometer and a thermostat comes in.

A thermometer lets the external environment dictate the temperature. If the morning is manic, your mood becomes manic.

A thermostat acknowledges heat, does quick planning, AND sets its own internal temperature anyway.

In NLP, we look at how easily our internal state can get hijacked by the external noise.

The chaos isn't going anywhere soon, letting a pre-meeting harmonica ‘solo’ to be the last straw is completely optional.
Whilst planning is essential, letting the chaos ruin your state of mind is not an option.

What challenge have you had to deal with right before a call this summer?

"It's so foggy!"

"If it was only mapped out..."

Ever spent 20 minutes explaining a simple idea, only to get a blank stare and a "...so, what do you need me to do?" You feel like an alien 😅

When a message doesn't land, it is usually because we are communicating in our preferred style, rather than the listeners. In Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), we call this a mismatch in Representational Systems which can lose time, create misunderstanding and impact relationships.

Some of us prefer visual, they want to ‘see’ it, some more auditory, so it must ‘sound’ right, some are kinesthetic (feelings) so will focus on the feeling they are getting from it and others are more auditory digital, in other words, it’s gotta make sense.

NLP teaches you how to quickly spot these preferred systems so you can change your delivery when you need to. Because at the end of the day, the meaning of communication is the response you get.

Which style do you spend most of your time whilst communicating?

Watching the eclipse through a different filter on this special evening, gave it's own experience and feeling. At a certain point, it was as if everything paused and went still for just a moment, then started to get going again.

When you change your filter, you change your perspective.

And everything else follows.

We all say we want them, then never find the time to take action.

We praise and envy others who do it and never take action

We watch, like and comment on others who share their moments and think, "I must do this!" Then never take action.

Those who have taken action, they know the value and make it happen.

Because these moments, define who you are in now and going forward.

Do you?

😏 You know those days where it seems nothing goes right and it feels like one thing after another?

Waking up to total silence because your phone charger wasn’t switched on, meaning you have slept through your alarm. Throwing your clothes on, sprinting to the car, turning the key... and the petrol light is flashing empty.

Then hitting unexpected temporary lights due to roadworks on the way into work. "Of course this happens to me. My day is ruined!"

Those are typical examples of ‘thermometer’ behaviour; letting external chaos dictate your internal mood whilst using excuses to justify losing it. 🌡️

Most people say they want peace of mind, thing is, the second real life hits the fan, excuses come out. "I wanted to stay calm, BUT the traffic was awful."

One of the foundations of NLP is finding empowerment by choosing to be at cause and leaving effect. This means ditching the excuses (effect) and choosing to ‘own it’. By taking responsibility, you are operating at 'cause' in your life, which makes whatever life throws at you, like having a bad day, navigating road works and much bigger challenges, easier to handle.

Are you ready to own it to move forward? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I feel for anyone who is currently trying to stick to a rigid, colour-coded summer holiday schedule with kids at home. 😳

You spend hours mapping out every snack time, activity, and work block, telling yourself: "If we just stick to the plan, we will survive August."

Then it's 9am, someone loses their favourite cup, the wifi drops during a work meeting, and the whole plan implodes before lunch. 🫣

This is the flip side of the thermometer vs. thermostat.
Being a thermostat isn't about forcing the room to stay at a rigid 21°C. It is about flexibility. When the heat rises outside, a good system adapts without blowing a fuse.

In NLP, there is a fundamental rule: The person (or system) with the most flexibility controls the system.

How does this apply? If your plan is rigid, your frustration is practically guaranteed. If your mindset is flexible, you can handle change without losing your calm.

In other words a rigid plan will break, your composure doesn't have to!

Unlike many factory perfect 'models' out there, here, blemishes are actively encouraged. It doesn't matter where they are, buried over time beneath the many layers of 'veneer'. Because you are worth it.

No different from when I meet students and prospective clients asking about NLP.

When they learn NLP they work on:

Removing the excuses
Stripping away the labels
Sanding down limiting beliefs
To reveal their core.

Then:
Strengthen the positive foundations
Create new patterns of behaviour
Oil and wax their authenticity

To show up, boldly with belief, ready for whatever the challenges.

Bring it on, all of it!
