When should you start reading with your baby? 👶🏼

The answer is, it's never too early!

Hearing stories, songs and rhymes from infancy helps children develop essential communication skills, strengthening brain pathways and building vocabulary. However, new research from the National Literacy Trust reveals fewer than 1 in 2 parents (45.9%) read with their child daily.

With the National Year of Reading 2026 campaign also highlighting the decline in reading for pleasure we’ve put together some tips on how to get started: https://www.readingfairy.com/readingtoyourbaby

Reading Fairy was on BBC Breakfast! Did you spot Reading Fairy Classes Stockport this morning?

We are so proud to see the positive impact Ruth is making to literacy and reading in Stockport and the surrounding areas.

The full BBC report by Vanessa Clark highlighted the challenges facing many families as they try to secure a nursery place for their 3 and 4 year olds. The government sees early years as a key priority but many education charities are concerned that not enough progress is being made.

Alexandra Park Primary in Stockport is clearly doing a fantastic job to support children to learn all the skills they need before making the leap to starting school. We are delighted that Reading Fairy is seen as a part of this.

Reading Fairy pre-school classes run across 4 pre-school stages from Book Babies (from 12 months) to Reading Recruits (for 3-5 year olds).

Interactive and engaging Reading Fairy classes allow children to enjoy literacy and stories through characters including:
- Reading Fairy for storytelling
- Music Mouse for songs and nursery rhymes
- Phonics Fox for sounds and letters
- Chat Cat for vocabulary and language enrichment
- Book Bear to encourage a love of books and story time!

We support families and nurseries to lay the foundations for learning to read and loving books for life!

Contact to find out:
- how we can support your early years setting
- join a Reading Fairy class in your area
- run Reading Fairy in your area
- book a special event (like our "Get Set for School" sessions)

We'd LOVE to hear your Reading Fairy stories too, especially as it's the National Year of Reading. Let's give every child the best start for reading for life!

Seaside Inspiration 🐚

This term our Ready Fairy classes are taking you on an exciting adventure to the seaside.

We’re journeying through the sounds of the sea, hunting for the sh in shells with Phonic Fox and the s as we sing about the sailor who went to sea with Music Mouse.

It's also a fun topic to explore together outside of our sessions. Here are some of our favourite books about the seaside to enjoy at home or in the library:

Lucy and Tom at the Seaside by Shirley Hughes
Peekaboo Sea by Lara Green
Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson
A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle

Learning with Book Bear 🐻

While we love to sing, dance and bring out our musical instruments as we learn, for many children the best part of Reading Fairy classes is when they calmly snuggle down for a story with Book Bear, complete with their own little bear, blanket and book.

Of course we are still learning! This time in our sessions is a chance to develop book reading behaviours including book orientation, page turning, prediction and excitement.

Alphabet Adventures 🍎

Going on Alphabet Adventures is a big part of the Reading Fairy curriculum and in our classes we've been singing The ABC Song together along with some of our favourite nursery rhymes.

Did you know that rhyming helps us hear the final sounds in words which is an important part of learning to read?

You can learn more about how Reading Fairy classes support the development of crucial building blocks and critical skills for learning to read and loving books for life on our website: https://www.readingfairy.com

Reading Fairy classes allow children to learn as they play.

While each session ends with us settling down for a quiet story with book bear, first there's fun to be had as we journey through stories and sounds together the words are brought to life.

Here jumping up and getting involved isn't just accepted, it's encouraged!
