🛹🚲 WHAT AN AMAZING DAY AT JUDITH’S FIELD! 🎉
We were absolutely delighted to officially open the BRAND-NEW Novice Skate Park and Pump Track at Judith’s Field – and what an incredible atmosphere there was!
It was fantastic to see so many people come along to celebrate with us. There was a real buzz around the whole park, with young people, mums, dads, novice skaters, BMX riders and scooter riders all enjoying the new facilities together. Seeing Judith’s Field so full of energy, laughter and excitement was absolutely brilliant.
We were delighted to be joined by Cllr Brenda Hennessey, Chair of Property, Cllr Alan Ho**er, Chair of Environment – who was also busy behind the camera capturing the day! – the Mayor of Godmanchester, Cllr Debbie Mickelburgh, Ben Obese-Jecty MP for Huntingdon and Jason Emery from Let’s Go Skate and Scenic Skate Shop in Huntingdon.
Brenda gave some fantastic opening words to get the celebrations underway and then it was time to put the new facilities to the test! 🛹
A particular highlight was seeing our Mayor get on a skateboard and have a lesson with Jason – what a brilliant sport! 👏 Not to be outdone, Ben Obese-Jecty MP also stepped onto a board and got some expert tuition from Jason. Both were fantastic sports and certainly helped make the opening one to remember!
But perhaps the best part of the whole event was seeing the engagement between everyone who attended. So many young people came over to speak with councillors and our MP, sharing their enthusiasm and simply enjoying being part of the occasion.
It was a wonderful example of how local representatives and residents of all ages can come together in such a positive and harmonious way.
Seeing skaters, BMX riders and scooter riders of different ages and abilities sharing the space, encouraging one another and having fun was exactly what we hoped this project would achieve.
This new facility has already made such a positive impact on Godmanchester and, judging by the number of smiling faces we saw at the opening, it is going to be enjoyed for many years to come.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the opening such a success. ❤️
Now there’s only one thing left to do…
GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY IT! 🛹🚲🛴🎉

Update 10/08/26 5pm
Area Commander Wayne Swales said: “Our crews continue to work really hard at the scene of this fire. It has been a significantly challenging incident and our firefighters have done a fantastic job today and over the weekend to try and bring it under control. We’ve also received fantastic support from services around the country. This is despite there being several other incidents ongoing, including a large fire at a recycling centre in Northamptonshire. At any one time there has been in excess of 80 firefighters and officers at the scene battling the conditions and the numerous hazards.
“We are working with other service and our multi-agency partners to plan for the coming week, as we anticipate we’ll need to maintain a large presence at the incident for most of the week. There will be smoke visible from considerable distances, however this is from the firefighting tactics we are having to deploy. This should not be confused with the thicker black smoke and smell that is coming from the incident in Northamptonshire. Those that think they might be impacted should keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution. We also urge people to continue to stay away from the area.
“I can reassure residents that we will be working hard to maintain our availability to respond to emergencies while this incident is ongoing. Although many of our fire engines will be at Holme Fen over the coming days, we will have others available to respond. In some cases we will have to prioritise depending on the nature of the emergency.
“Finally I just want to thank everyone for your patience and support so far. We’ve been inundated with lovely messages from people, which has been really appreciated. We hope to be able to bring this to a conclusion as soon as we can, but in the meantime we are grateful for all the support.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Firefighters are continuing to tackle the large fire at Holme Fen Nature Reserve today (Monday August 10). Crews remained on scene overnight working incredibly hard.
We are still asking you to please, please avoid the area. It is very busy with emergency vehicles and it also for your own safety due to the hazards in the area.
If you can smell smoke, please close your windows and doors.
More updates on this incident can be found on our website: https://orlo.uk/o2wXk
Please share this post if you can, it will be really helpful!

🚗 How do we monitor speeding in Godmanchester?
Speeding is one of the issues residents raise with us most often, so we wanted to explain how we monitor traffic speeds around the town.
Godmanchester Town Council uses Mobile Vehicle Activated Signs (MVAS), which are moved between a number of approved locations throughout Godmanchester. The signs display a driver's speed, reminding motorists to slow down if they are travelling above the speed limit.
As well as encouraging safer driving, the MVAS units collect anonymous traffic data, including vehicle speeds and traffic volumes. By moving them between different locations, we can build up a broader picture of traffic patterns across the town.
The information collected helps us identify trends and can be shared with partners such as Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridgeshire Constabulary to support discussions about road safety and any future measures that may be appropriate.
It's important to note that the Town Council cannot enforce speed limits or issue speeding fines. Enforcement is the responsibility of the police. However, the data collected by our MVAS units helps us better understand local concerns and provides valuable evidence when working with the relevant authorities.
🚗 Thank you for helping us keep Godmanchester a safe place to live, work and visit.

✨ Another fantastic Godmanchester Repair Café! ✨
What an incredible afternoon! It was wonderful to see so many people through the doors with a fantastic mix of pre-booked repairs and walk-ins, all helping to give cherished items a second life instead of sending them to landfill.
A huge thank you to our amazing volunteer repairers, café team and everyone behind the scenes who made the event such a success. The atmosphere was brilliant from start to finish and, judging by the feedback, everyone had a great time.
Here’s just some of what our volunteers had to say:
💬 “I really enjoyed myself once I got there and with six successful repairs to my name I’m happy.”
💬 “It was a pleasure. As always it was a good event. Already looking forward to the next one.”
💬 “You hear lovely life stories with a long repair… Lots of happy looking faces today, delicious cakes and stuff saved from landfill – what else could you want?”
💬 “Repairs have included blow-up 6ft rabbits, a 5ft gorilla, a ball pool, costumes for American musicians, soft toys ravaged by dogs, walking sticks, tents and so much more!”
💬 “I feel sure the success of our Repair Cafés is the attention to detail before, during and after the event, and the welcome extended to repairers and clients throughout the afternoon… A wonderful advertisement for the Town Council.”
And of course, one of our favourite repairs of the day… 🧸 Mayor Bear was successfully mended too!
Thank you to everyone who brought along items to repair, enjoyed a slice of cake and supported this fantastic community initiative. Every repair helps reduce waste, saves money and keeps valuable skills alive.
📸 We’ve got lots of photos to share from the day, so have a browse through the album and see if you can spot yourself!
We can’t wait to see you all at the next Godmanchester Repair Café. ♻️🧵🔧
