Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending my capping ceremony at the Worshipful Company of Carmen, becoming a Freeman of the Company.

After a career devoted to road transport, joining a City of London Livery Company with such a rich transport heritage feels particularly special. I’m proud to mark this milestone and grateful for the warm welcome I received.

I look forward to getting involved in Company events, supporting its charitable activities and contributing to an industry that has given me so much.

A memorable day, and the beginning of a new chapter.

That comment from an operator inspired this week’s Sunday Service: Thoughts from the Hard Shoulder.

🤔 What exactly does a transport consultant do?
📋 How does the role differ from that of a transport manager?
⚖️ Where does the solicitor fit into the picture?
🔍 A good transport consultant brings independent scrutiny, specialist knowledge and a fresh perspective to an operator’s compliance arrangements.

They identify risks, explain why they matter and help introduce practical controls that work in the real world—not merely while the consultant is standing beside them. ✅
