A huge ongratulations to Samuel Leonard on being named as one of just three finalists for the prestigious ECA Edmundson Apprentice of the Year Award 2026! 🎉

Samuel, who completed his electrical apprenticeship at JTL Norwich, has been recognised among the very best apprentices in the UK. This achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication, as well as the support of his employer, P A Collacott & Co.

The overall winner will be announced at the awards lunch in London, on Wednesday, 16 September.

⚡ England urgently needs more skilled electricians

From building new homes to delivering clean energy and digital infrastructure, demand is growing - but our latest JTL research shows the electrical workforce isn't keeping pace.

While the number of electricians increased slightly in 2025, the workforce is 25% smaller than it was in 2018. Electrical apprenticeship starts are also well below the estimated 12,500 needed each year to maintain a competent, skilled workforce.

⚠️ Without urgent action to increase apprenticeship starts and improve achievement rates, the UK risks falling short of the skilled workforce needed to power future growth.

We’re delighted to welcome Stuart Mills as a new Trustee to the JTL Board 👋

Stuart is an executive leader specialising in transformation, talent ecosystems and digital strategy. His career spans the Royal Navy, Schlumberger, Wood Mackenzie and Salesforce, where he helped build the EMEA talent ecosystem to reach more than one million learners. He now leads Practical Acts, an advisory practice focused on ethical resilience in leadership.

As Independent Trustee, Stuart brings JTL's Board the strategic horizon-scanning and technology expertise the building services engineering sector needs as it confronts net-zero targets, a tightening skills pipeline, and the accelerating demands of digital transformation.

His expertise will strengthen our Board and support JTL’s continued growth, ensuring we remain responsive to the needs of apprentices, employers and industry partners.
