Many accountants feel stuck in a cycle of overwork, poor quality clients and low fees.

But some are running their dream practice - great clients, fulfilling work, fees that reflect their true value.

And there are 8 things that they all have in common.

Your brand is one of your most valuable assets, no matter what kind of business you’re in.

Many business owners assume that registering a company name and buying a domain gives them full legal ownership of their brand.

It doesn't.

And that gap is exactly where costly disputes, forced rebrands and lost customer trust happen.

Join Thursday's webinar with National Business Register to find out what will protect your clients’ identity.

You’ll leave with a clear, practical map of what genuinely protects a business's identity, the real risks of doing nothing and a concrete checklist you can use with clients immediately.

There is a moment — usually Sunday afternoon — when you open your phone to check just one thing.

And it's never just one thing.

Most accounting firm owners describe this pattern the same way: "That's just how it is." And for a long time, it is.

Until someone asks a different question. Not "how do I get better at managing this?" but: "what kind of practice would I have to build for this not to be the structure?"

That is a different question. It points somewhere different.

Great questions change everything.

She was three years into convincing herself it would calm down after busy season.

In that time, she got more efficient, more organised, and more in control.

The work itself never changed.

The Compliance Trap is not a failure of effort. It's a structural problem dressed up as a good year.

Most firm owners who are in it describe the same thing: things are going well, but something feels like it isn't moving.

That's worth paying attention to.

The number of new businesses setting up shop is growing.

Which means more new entrepreneurs making mistakes, misunderstanding the rules and needing help!

In other words, a great opportunity for accountants to give them the support that early-stage enterprises need to flourish and grow.

Join us on Thursday as we look into how accountants can add value at the very start of the client relationship.

We'll share practical ways you can work alongside your clients during this crucial stage — not simply dealing with the accounts once the business exists, but becoming a trusted adviser from day one.

Why aren’t your perfect clients beating a path to your door?

It’s not that they think you aren’t right for them.

It’s because they don’t even know you exist.

In Thursday's Accountants Helping Accountants webinar, we’re going to change that!

You’ll discover the perfect client attraction system that gets you in front of the kind of clients you really want (without cold calling, spending a fortune on ads or trying to be something you're not).

You'll leave with clear next steps including the one thing to change on your LinkedIn profile before Friday.

If you’re fed up working with clients you don't really want, this session will show you what's going wrong - and how to fix it.

One question. That's it.

Most client meetings report the "as is" — here's what your margin did, here's the year. Useful. But on its own it changes nothing.

Try this instead:

"If you could take 50% more income out of this business than you do now — what would that make possible for you and your family?"

Some will call it impossible. Press on. If it did happen — what would it change? Is that important to you? And why?

Now you're not talking about accounts. You're talking about their life. That's the moment to show how shifting a few key numbers — margin, pricing, recovery — quietly makes that picture real.

You didn't sell anything. You helped them want it, then showed them it was closer than they thought.

She was at her walkaway point.

Kathryn Webb wasn't lazy. She wasn't bad at her job. She was a good accountant who had started to wonder what the point was. Compliance after compliance. Year after year. She was close to leaving the profession entirely.

Then she came across AVN. She was sceptical — she'd heard things like this before.

The Roadmap was uncomfortable. It asked her to have conversations she'd avoided, to price differently, to believe she was worth more than compliance work before she had the evidence.

She did it anyway.

The client conversations changed. Clients started responding differently. Starting sharing things they'd never shared before. The work started to feel different.

The old way of doing business was gone. There's a cost to that. She couldn't go back to just filing the accounts and calling it done. But the firm she runs now is not the firm she was about to walk away from.

The accountants who get to the other side aren't the ones who had no doubts. They're the ones who acted while the doubts were still there.

Kathryn nearly didn't. That's what makes her story worth hearing.

He told me he was "just an accountant". By the end of our conversation, he'd proved he was something else — without noticing.

I asked him to walk me through his last client meeting. Here's what he did:

1. He saw the number that was off. A margin had slipped and he'd flagged it — because the wrong number jumps out at him before anything else does.

2. He asked the question. Not a lecture — "what do you think is behind it?" The kind of question that makes a client stop and think.

3. He saw the order. "Fix the pricing first, then look at the rest." A sequence, laid out without realising.

Measure. Probe. Sequence. That's not "advisory". That's a Profit Improvement Accountant — doing the thing he swore he didn't do.

The 3 signs you already are one: you see the number that's off, you ask the question that makes a client think, and you see the order things need to happen in.

If that sounds like you — you already are one. You just haven't named it yet.
