Workshop series

Yin yoga and the 5 elements

Daoist philosophy invites us to live with the rhythms of nature, where each element and season offer an opportunity to harness the qualities of that moment.

We will explore harmony with the seasons of nature, the seasons of each day as we transition from the yang of morning to the yin of evening and the seasons of our lives as we move from the yang of youth to the yin of maturity and wisdom. Each phase offers us the opportunity to regulate and cultivate a relationship of harmony and wellbeing between the world outside us and within us.

This workshop is open to everyone; general yoga practitioners, yin afficionados, yin teachers who want to explore the integration of the elements into daily life and anyone with a genuine interest in exploring their wellbeing. Each workshop will run on a Sunday from 3-5:30pm and match the season we are in.

Workshop 1: Winter – Water – Sunday January 22nd
Workshop 2: Spring – Wood – Sunday March 26th
Workshop 3: Summer – Fire – Sunday June 25th
Workshop 4: Late Summer – Earth – Sunday August 20th
Workshop 5: Autumn – Metal – Sunday October 8th

You are welcome to join all 5 workshops or pick and choose individually. For yoga teachers joining all 5 workshops, a certificate of attendance will be released. You can register these hours as training hours with the organisation you are affiliated with. Please check their requirements to make sure that the workshop meets the individual requirements of the organisation you are registered with. What makes us a yoga teacher?

After graduating as yoga teachers, we may feel pressure to teach a certain number of classes to feel that we are an authentic teacher, as well as adopt certain external behaviours.

However, the number of classes we teach is irrelevant, whether we are a full time teacher or a part time teacher does not matter either.

How authentically we live and share the path of yoga is at the heart of it. Can we keep the joy in the practice? Do we have time for our own practice and development?

I have found myself on a number of occasions so overwhelmed by taking on too much and that always disconnects me from the path. To walk the path with authenticity, we need to have balance. Of course, it comes and goes but overloading is a way of loosing joy and connection.

So if you share yoga once a week or once a year or every day, you are still a yoga teacher. If you are able to hold space and offer a listening ear and a compassionate heart to someone in distress, you are offering yoga. If you are volunteering for a charity and helping those in need, you are offering yoga. Our own practice and the way we live is are intrinsically linked to our role as a teacher.

As a former studio owner, I have seen teachers reach that personal balance in so many different ways. There is no right way, but many paths open to being lived with purpose and intention. Would love to hear your views in comments below 🧡🌸🕉
