School hours: 10am-12.15.

Christmas and Spring parties start at 11am and finish by 1pm. We have a small library, a cafe and a tuck shop with Finnish goodies open for all visitors between 10am and approx. 11:30am. Both kids and adults can start any time during the term. Children's groups: £15 per term or £20 per family, excluding adults. Adult classes (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced) £49 per Autumn term (7 sessions) and

£70 per Spring term (10 sessions). Even if you don't usually attend the School, you're very welcome to come to the parties! Please bring some food to share and, if you have children coming to the Christmas party, a present for your child for the Santa's sack. (The School provides presents for the school children.) The Finnish School in Manchester offers Finnish classes and activities for children and adults alike. We have a small library, a cafe and a tuck shop open for all visitors between 10.00 am and open approx. up to 11.30 am. The Finnish School in Manchester founded in 1977. The School is supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education. It is a registered charity, and a politically and religiously non-aligned voluntary organisation. The Finnish School in Manchester is a member of the Finland Association (Suomi-Seura ry.) and participates in the Finnish Expatriate Parliament.

🇫🇮 Syyskuu on täällä – ja niin on taas Suomi-koulu!

Syyslukukautemme alkaa lauantaina 5. syyskuuta tuttuun aikaan tutussa paikassa.

Odotamme innolla, että saamme toivottaa kaikki nykyiset oppilaamme tervetulleiksi takaisin sekä tavata kaikki uudet oppilaat, jotka ovat ilmoittautuneet mukaan.

Our autumn term starts on Saturday 5 September at the usual time in the usual place.

We look forward to welcoming all of our existing students back as well as meeting all the new students who have signed up.

Invitation to our Annual General Meeting 2026

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Finnish School in Manchester will take place on Saturday 5 September 2026 at 12:30 (straight after our first school session finishes).

All members of the school are warmly welcome to attend. The AGM is a great way to learn more about how we run the school, an opportunity to get involved in the committee, and have your say in decisions affecting the school. The meeting is held in English, so you don’t need to speak Finnish to attend or to join the committee.

The meeting will be held in person and you don’t have to sign up - just turn up on the day. If you wish to attend virtually, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate this.

There’s no pressure to get involved in the committee if you do join the meeting. But in case you are interested in becoming a part of our team of volunteers, we could always do with a few more hands on deck, especially anyone with skills or an interest in:
- social media
- communications
- organisation
- admin tasks
- record keeping

In case you’re not sure who’s currently a committee member and what roles we have, take a look at the ’About’ page on our website or see the post pinned to the top of our Instagram page.

Voisitko sinä olla Manchesterin Suomi-koulun uusi lastenopettaja?

Etsimme uutta opettajaa/ryhmänohjaajaa lastenryhmään vähintään vuodeksi. Suomi-koulumme tapaa noin kaksi kertaa kuukaudessa lauantai aamuisin, joten tämä pesti hoituu helposti töiden tai opiskelujen ohella. Saat myös tukea opetussuunnitelmaan toiselta lastenopettajaltamme.

🇫🇮 Viikonloppuna juhlittiin Manchesterin Suomi-koulun kevätjuhlia! Ohjelmaan kuului perinteinen buffet ruokailu mihin kaikki vierailijat saivat osallistua haluamillaan makeilla ja suolaisilla herkuilla. Buffetpöydästä löytyi muunmuassa suomalaisten juhlien perinneherkkua eli voileipäkakkua.

Ruokailun lisäksi saimme nauttia lastenryhmien esityksistä. Pienimmät esittivät tuiki tuiki tähtösen kun taas isompien ryhmät tanssivat tanhua ja ottivat yleisönkin mukaan.

Näin saatiin mahtava kevät lukukausi päätökseen ja tapaamme koululla jälleen syyskuussa 💐🍁

🇬🇧 Over the weekend, the Finnish School in Manchester celebrated its spring festival! The programme included a traditional buffet where all visitors could contribute with their choice of sweet and savory treats. Among other things, the buffet table featured sandwich cake (voileipäkakku), a traditional delicacy of Finnish celebrations.

In addition to the food, we got to enjoy performances by the children’s groups. The youngest performed ”Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” while the older groups danced traditional Finnish folk dance (tanhu) and even got the audience involved.

This brought a wonderful spring semester to a close, and we will meet at the school again in September! 💐🍁

🇫🇮 Toukokuu on täällä ja kevätkauden loppu häämöttää. M***a ei hätää, tapaamme vielä Suomi-koululla kaksi kertaa ennen kesätaukoa. Tervetuloa mukaan lauantaina 9. toukokuuta! ☀️ Oppitunnit toimivat normaaliin tapaan ja kahvila sekä kauppa ovat auki.

🇬🇧 May is here and the end of the spring term is looming. But no worries, we will meet at the Finnish school two more times before the summer break. We welcome you to join us on Saturday 9 May ☀️ Lessons will run as usual, and the cafe and shop will be open.

🇫🇮 KEVÄTJUHLA 2026

Tervetuloa Manchesterin Suomi-koulun kevätjuhlaan lauantaina 23. toukokuuta 2026 💐

Kevätjuhlapäivänä kaikki oppitunnit ovat tuttuun tapaan kello 10-11. Oppituntien jälkeen pääsemme nauttimaan nyyttikesteistä/buffetista, lastenryhmien esityksistä sekä perinteisesti suvivirren yhteislaulusta.

Buffetti toimii perinteisesti nyyttäriperiaatteella. Kutsumme kaikki kävijät osallistumaan buffettiin
haluamillaan tuomisilla. Niin kaupasta ostetut kuin itsetehdyt suolaiset tai makeat syötävät ovat mainioita buffettiin. Esimerkiksi hedelmät, marjat, sipsit, dipit, pirakat, kakut ja keksit ovat aina suosittuja vaihtoehtoja 🍰🍪

Kevätjuhla on myös oiva tilaisuus kutsua muita vieraita koululle oppituntien jalkeen nauttimaan juhlatunnelmasta ja buffetista. Isovanhemmat, kumppanit ja ystävät ovat kaikki tervetulleita!

🇬🇧 SPRING PARTY 2026

Welcome to our spring party on 23 May 2026 💐

On the day of the spring party, all lessons will be held as usual from 10 to 11 am. After the lessons, we will enjoy a potluck/buffet, performances by the children’s groups, and a sing-along featuring the traditional Finnish summer hymn ”suvivirsi”.

The buffet will traditionally operate on a potluck basis. We invite all visitors to contribute to the buffet with food items of your choosing. Both store-bought and homemade savory or sweet treats are great for the buffet. For example, fruit, berries, crisps, dips, pies, cakes, and biscuits are always popular options 🍰🍪

The spring party is also a great opportunity to invite other guests to the school after the lessons to enjoy the party atmosphere and the buffet. Grandparents, partners, and friends are all welcome!

🇬🇧 Come and join us for a day in Mayfield Park on Saturday 16 May from 11am onwards. This is a chance for the kids to play together and the parents to also meet and chat! Bring your own picnic if you’d like 🧺 See you there!

🇫🇮 KIOSKI/KAUPPA ESITTELYSSÄ
Viime kuussa esittelimme kahvilamme, ja tässä kuussa on kauppamme vuoro! Jos olet vieraillut koulullamme tai joulumarkkinoillamme aiemmin, et ole varmasti voinut olla huomaamatta sitä – m***a kaikille uusille tuttavuuksille tiedoksi: kyllä, meiltä löytyy valikoima suomalaisia herkkuja ostettavaksi!

Kioskimme on auki aina oppituntien yhteydessä (sekä tietysti joulumarkkinoillamme ja kevätjuhlissamme). Valikoimasta löytyy vaihtuva erä karkkeja ja suklaata, erityisesti kaikille Fazer-faneille. Saatavuudesta riippuen hyllyiltä saattaa löytyä jopa RaiRai-ruisleipää, suomalaista sinappia, suomalaista kahvia ja paljon muuta.

Kuten kahvilaamme, myös kauppaamme pyörittävät vapaaehtoiset, ja jokainen ostoksesi tukee kouluamme.

🇬🇧 KIOSK/SHOP SPOTLIGHT
Last month we did a post on our cafe and this month it’s our shop’s turn! Of course you won’t have missed it if you’ve visited the school or our Christmas market before but for any newbies out there - yes we have a selection of Finnish treats available to buy!

Every time we have lessons (and of course at our Christmas market and Spring party), our kiosk is open. You’ll find a varying selection of sweets and chocolates, especially for all Fazer fans. Depending on availability, you may even find RaiRai rybread, Finnish mustard, Finnish coffee and much more.

Like our cafe, our shop is also ran by volunteers and anything you buy supports our school directly.
