Learning doesn’t always happen sitting at a desk.
In fact, some of the most valuable learning happens when there isn’t a classroom, worksheet or lesson plan in sight.
Today, ENGAGE involved supporting someone to work through a big life decision. We talked, explored different options, considered possible consequences and helped them break a complicated decision down into something they could understand and manage.
It didn’t look much like traditional teaching.
But it involved communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, confidence, decision-making and learning how to apply those skills to real life.
That is what our ENGAGE model is built around.
We don’t believe learning has to start with getting someone into a classroom and asking them to fit the way education has always been delivered. Sometimes we need to start with the person, what is happening in their life, what matters to them and how they learn best.
For some young people, that might mean learning at a table. For others, it might happen while walking, travelling, completing a practical task or simply having the right conversation in a place where they feel comfortable.
The setting might change. The learning doesn’t stop.
Because education isn’t only about qualifications and academic progress. It is also about developing the skills, confidence and understanding needed to navigate everyday life.
