A reminder that despite us loving all this summer sunshine our Autumn term is only a few weeks away 🍁

Our regular Forest school sessions begin on September 5th.. and don’t tell Summer but Autumn might just be our favourite season in the woods!

All our regular families should have now received booking links for the term - if you haven’t please drop us a message 🍂

Nothing better than food cooked on an open fire. There's something about the smell of smoke and the wait while everyone gathers round that makes it taste better than anything from a kitchen - it's what our ancestors did for thousands of years, and there's a real sense of community that comes from sharing food cooked this way together.

It's a brilliant skill for children to practice too, and a proper forest school one at that. Lighting and tending a fire teaches patience and self reliance in a way nothing indoors can. It's about learning through doing, working out for themselves how to manage the heat, judge the risk, and problem solve when something doesn't go to plan. That mix of independence and connection to nature is exactly what forest school is all about, and the sense of achievement when they've cooked their own food over their own fire stays with them long after the embers go out.

Plus it tastes good too!

🍄 The Woodland's Most Bizarre Mushroom

It emerges overnight like something from another world… tall, strange and carrying the unmistakable scent of rotting flesh.

Meet the Stinkhorn aka the p***s mushroom – a mushroom so foul-smelling that flies come from miles around to feast on its slimy coating and unknowingly spread its spores.
Victorian ladies were said to cut these mushrooms down before their daughters saw them… one look and you'll understand why! 🍆
Love it or hate it, this peculiar fungus is one of nature's weirdest creations. Next time you're in the woods, follow your nose… if you dare.
