In assembly today, Mr Skelton talked about our 'controllables' - what we have control over (such as effort and attitude), what we have no control over and what we have an influence over. We thought carefully about setting New Year goals that were in our control

Welcome back for the first school day of 2024! We're looking forward to a focused but fun term ahead.
The children were happy to catch up with friends and the small flurry of snow caused huge excitement in the Prep school playground this lunchtime.

Happy Christmas from everyone at Newland House School.

Our Carol Services at St Mary's Church in Twickenham were the perfect end to term to get everyone into the Christmas spirit. The pupils, choirs, soloist and the whole congregation filled the Church with joy. 🎵🎶

Here are a few more pictures of our Nursery children's nativity performance. They took to the stage in the Pre-Prep hall with such confidence, having learnt lines and stage directions beautifully 💛

🎅🏽🎄It's a hive of activity over in Christmas holiday club. The younger children have been making Christmas crafts, and over in the DT workshop the older children are making and welding music speakers with decorated covers!

Newland House's Holiday Clubs are run by our own teaching staff and packed with activities. They run from 9-4pm with the option of extending the day from 8:30 - 5:30pm.

The Year 3s have been busy turning their creative sparks into festive flames!

They've had their first term of DT lessons in the Prep School and one of their projects has been these lovely model Christmas fireplaces. Beautifully made - we think that they look great!

🎥 Year 7 & 8 wrapped up the term with the 'Sky Up' experience at Sky Studios in Isleworth. After a behind-the-scenes tour, the boys headed to 4 different studios to work on their own news segment for a story on social media and cyberbullying.

There were many interesting roles to explore, like cameraman, producer, and presenter. The highlight? A raid on the costume cupboard to deck out in style for their on-screen roles!🎬 Pooling their efforts, the boys combined their segments to create a compelling news report. 🌟

To cap off the day, they had the chance to witness a live sports broadcast just next door. Who knows, this experience might have sparked some future news and presenting careers?! 🎙️Sky Sky News

🎨Last week our ARTiculate club headed into London to the David Hockney exhibition, Drawing from Life, at the National Portrait Gallery. Their current topic is portraiture and they explored the exhibition with pencil in hand as they made their own observational studies. It's on until 21st Jan, so well worth a visit over the Christmas holidays!

Today was the last Monday assembly of 2023 and an opportunity to reflect on our progress

We've got an exciting opportunity for a gap student to come and join our friendly school community from January until the end of the academic year. You'll be working chiefly in the Games Department under the direction of the Director of Sport.
Could it be you or someone you know? Find out more

We've been overwhelmed by the generosity of the school community for Newland House's 12 Days of Christmas! Today the Senior Prep boys helped load the donations collected so far onto the truck. Thank you everyone 💛 The Trussell Trust

It was our Year 3 and 4 book look this morning. 📚

Welcoming parents into the classroom is a great opportunity for them to ask questions, see the curriculum firsthand hand and ask the teachers any questions they may have. We love seeing the children proudly showing the wonderful work they have been doing over the Term.

The strong bond between the school, parents and their children is vital to a happy and fulfilling educational journey 💛

🌟The festive season really is in full flow at Newland House! The children in Reception gave an outstanding Nativity performance this week, and we think that all the parents who came to watch will agree that they did exceptionally well.

It's wonderful to see how their confidence is blossoming and the connections they have made with each other since joining Reception. ❤️

✨🎄 Nothing that heralds the start of the Christmas period quite like the school nativity play. Our Nursery children shone brightly in their performance this week. Well done to all the children who confidently took to the stage in the Pre-Prep hall and filled us with Christmas cheer!

Day 3 of Newland House's 12 Days of Christmas and triple the donations of the previous days! Amazing. Thank you to our parent community for the kind donations The Trussell Trust

We were transported back to Tudor times by the Year 5's productions about Henry VIII, their History topic this term. They fully embraced the roles of Henry VIII, his six wives and the sailors of the Mary Rose.

Our ambitious school productions are a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their confidence on stage and it felt like a real theatre in the Hall now we have our new raked seating.

Well done to everyone involved, and Thank you to the talented Art department for the set and props, and the hard work by
Mrs J (Head of Drama) and Mr Soper (Director of Music) to put on such entertaining shows.

We love the annual reindeer visit. The children in our Nursery and Pre-Prep were excited to meet these two magnificent reindeer, who were looking relaxed ahead of a busy schedule next month!

The children learnt lots of fun facts such as the difference between antlers and horns, that even the reindeer's nose is hairy and that reindeer can see a colour that humans can't - ultraviolet. In the Arctic Circle, the lichen they like to eat glows ultraviolet against the snow, so this special vision allows them to see it.

Sign up is open to the Christmas Holiday club. Run in school by our own teachers, it's going to be a lot of fun! Open to children from our Nursery school and upwards. Sign up ➡️

In assembly this morning, a group of our Year 8 boys announced 'Newland's 12 Days of Christmas'.

This year, Newland House will be celebrating Advent by giving back to our local community. Pupils are encouraged to bring in non-perishable goods in the lead up to the holidays, which will be collated by the senior boys and donated to The Trussell Trust food bank in Kingston.

Here's a little poem that was put together with some suggested donations.

Newland House’s 12 Days of Christmas:

On the first of December, Newland gave to me a holiday toiletry (shampoo, body wash, etc).
On the fourth of December, Newland gave to me a nice hot drink (tea or coffee).
On the fifth of December, Newland gave to me some lovely biscuits.
On the sixth of December, Newland gave to me a can of cranberry.
On the seventh of December, Newland gave to me a yummy box of stuffing.
On the eighth of December, Newland gave to me a Christmas feast (tinned meat/fish).
On the eleventh of December, Newland gave to me long-life milk for Santa.
On the twelfth of December, Newland gave to me some fancy chocolates.

The Senior boys had an exciting day exploring the heart of democracy as part of the Politics module of their Personal Development Programme (PDP). A fascinating, fact-filled tour of Westminster was followed by a session in the education centre where the boys assumed roles on either side of the house and put their debating skills to the test. Could we have the future Prime Minister at Newland House?

Fun fact: The green colour in the House of Commons is said to represent the common people, while the red in the House of Lords symbolises nobility and the gold represents the Monarchy.
