Whitton Day Nursery

Comments

We are very proud of our 2 staff members, who finally graduated today after a 2 year wait!
Very Well Done Laura and Charlotte!
🎉🎉🎉
If anyone can provide anything from this list, please bring it in to nursery next week and we will deliver it to the food bank! Thank you 👍
Huge thanks to all of our families and staff who joined us in the St George's Day parade today, and those who cheered us from the crowd!
Don't forget to come along to the ♥️Whitton St George's Day event tomorrow!
If your child (including ex-nursery children) would like to join us in the parade, you can either bring them along to Nelson School at 11.45 and find us, or simply 'jump in' as we proceed through the High St!
If you are in the crowd, don't forget to give us a big cheer! 👍
Our 'Whitton' Toddlers and Pre-school children have had a lot of fun visiting our new, amazing, nursery setting in Powder Mill Lane (an extention to our Twickenham Day Nursery) this week!
They were able to use our new indoor 'soft play tower' and explore the fantastic garden - and will be able to do so on a regular basis in the future 👍
Our new setting will be fully open for babies and younger toddlers (3 months - approx 2.5 year olds) from next Monday, 11th April.
If you, or any of your family members or friends, are looking for a full time nursery close by, you/they should book a viewing asap as the places are already filling up very quickly! ✅
For those parents and staff who may remember Lizzie, one of our past employees who was our Nursery cook for several years - I am very sad to report that she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday afternoon, 20th March.
It grieves us all when someone we have loved, known and/or worked with passes away - but Lizzie was also my sister, and a much loved auntie to my 2 sons, Stefan and Matthew, and will of course be sadly missed by her family and friends, including the many freinds which she met during her travels with me around the UK, Europe and Africa.
I will ❤️ you for always Lizzie!
Thank you for your service, and for your loyalty to the nursery and the children and their families!

In case you missed it...
This is something that all parents (and childcare practitioners) need to remember, whatever the age of their children, or in my own case now, grandchildren!

My child, this is a dance I don't quite have down.

But one I'm trying so hard to learn.

To know when to lead and when to follow.

To figure out when to hold you, and when to push you.

How to guide, while teaching you to navigate.

To protect you, but foster a fearlessness in your spirit.

How to ensure you believe with every fiber of your being that you are enough, while also igniting your passion for growth.

When to support you with a lift, and when to support you with a release.

To encourage you to push for your best, while knowing best is not perfection.

Teaching you to extend kindness and forgiveness, while not tolerating getting stepped on.

Helping you understand that joy comes from nurturing relationships with your people, but that sometimes your soul is best nurtured with nature's stillness.

Maybe you think I should know this dance by now. Maybe you even think I do.

The truth is I'm still a student too.

And I'm far enough into the choreography, to understand I'll probably never really master it.

But you can count on me being out that dance floor giving it everything I've got, for you.

Teaching you these delicate back and forth steps of life, as best as I can.

Sometimes we'll stumble, or get out of rhythm, but the music will always find us again and we'll keep on with the dance.

Together.

Hello everyone, as I am sure most of you are all aware, Margaret sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago.

We are having her funeral on Tuesday the 14th March at Hanworth Crematorium at 1.20pm, after which we will be going back to celebrate her amazing life together at the Whitton Park Sports Association (formerly the Old L:ats) for around 2.30pm.

If you knew Mum and wish to come and join us, please do so. She was a massive figure in and around Whitton and it will be great to get as many of her friends and family together as possible.

I had to share this as it reflects my personal feelings as I get older, and not just at Christmas!
My personal answer is one short line, taken from the film 'Love Actually'...
'All I want for Christmas, is YOU!' -
your good company, lot's of laughs, playing with my grandchilden - and a great Christmas lunch, cooked (preferably) by someone else! 🤣

06/12/2022

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Thank you to the lads at the back of Jolly’s who were very helpful, patient and lovely to us today!

Today I helped the key-staff of our 'little toddlers' to take 5 of them to visit the Forest School area at Nelson School, Whitton.
It was cold, and a little rainy, but the children were wearing warm wet-suits and wellies - but we had a marvelous time looking for, and collecting different coloured and shaped leaves, sticks etc and counting 'how many'; stomping in puddles and working in their excellent outdoor mud kitchens!
We also investigated their 'log pile' where beetles and other ground insects, spiders and even toads hibernate, the greenhouse and the large Insect bug-house where bees, ladybirds and other flying insects can stay warm and safe during the winter months.
We will be repeating this all week - with huge thanks to the Headteacher - and her brilliant staff - for making us feel so welcome to use their Forest School, and other facilities! 💕

A great tip for parents (with thanks to our staff member, Laura Baran, who taught me about this) which could save you from an uneccesary, very long, visit to A&E, as it enabled me to assist an anxious parent with this today.
If your young child has pushed a small object up into their nostril - which is something they do occasionally! - follow these actions:
1. Ensure that your child is sitting upright but with their head leaning very slightly forward
2. Block the unobstructed nostril with your finger on the side and ask the child to open their mouth
3. Cover their open mouth with your own and blow 'sharply and quickly' into theirs.
(repeat 2 - 3 times but only if neccessary)
The object should then fly out of their nostril!
If this fails to dislodge the item you will only then need take your child to A&E, as it will need medical intervention.
👍

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations are now over, but the memories of the wonderful Whitton street parties - and the UK wide celebrations - will stay in our memories for many years to come.
We are all, I am sure, very proud of the fact that our Queen has worked so very hard for 70 years, as have other members of her family - and that our local and national towns and villages have come together to celebrate her 70 year reign so wonderfully and effectively, bringing families and communities together.
Let us keep this community spirit going in Whitton - it just takes a smile or a helping hand to a stranger/potential new freind who you don't (yet) know : holding a park gate open for a parent with a pram, or kids on their bikes - petting their dog in the park - a simple 'hello, are you ok' to someone who appears to be sad/depressed/dispossessed/lonely - giving to the local food bank - or simply looking out for an elderly or disabled neighbour?
Or, we could volunteer to help out a local charity if we have a couple of hours to spare a week/month?

Most of our children at Whitton Day Nursery observed one minutes silence today and painted some beautiful poppies

One of our past (and future) parents, author Joe Heap, has his latest book out, which has gained great critical reviews.
His latest book is called 'When the Music Stops' and is available on Amazon and through bookshops, including Waterstones and WH Smiths... and there is a lovely surprise for WDN parents, staff and friends in the acknowledgements at the end!
However, you need to buy Joe's books to find out about the 'suprise' 👍
Please continue to support our local businesses - and our families - by shopping local.

Dear mummies and daddies
A
You will have received a mail from Becky today about our proposed reopening on 1st June.
We realise that many of you have questions which you need answers to - and the Nursery Directors (Margaret and Stefan) are being constantly updated about these by Becky.
We request that any questions should be sent in, via the famly app, by midday tomorrow (Thursday 14th May) in order that we can not only respond to these but can also use any relevant ones in formulating our policies and procedures regarding the current and any future pandemic viruses.
Please send your questions to Becky in a private message.
Any questions submitted after this time will be read but it is urgent to send them in by tomorrow midday as we have a lot of work to do.
We expect to have our Risk Assessment ready by the end of this week but it will take a little longer before our policies and proceedures are fully formulated as we need to take advice from Richmond Early Years and our legal advisor to make sure that we get then right.
Please be patient - we are all working very hard on this and we want to make sure that the children, parents and staff are all protected as much as possible.
Thank you
Margaret

Hey Mummies and Daddies,

Fancy a rock-spot when you’re out on your daily walk?

Remember to tell your children to spot and not touch!

How about a slightly different version of WhittonRocks, Whitton Rockers?!

Spot the rock! 😎

Put a smiley face in the comments once you’ve spotted the rock!

No need to touch or move it!
(Unless you’re comfortable doing so! But move it some where that we can spot the rainbow! And wash your hands afterwards!) 😉

Happy hunting/spotting!
