Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will be inspecting our local area (Kingston upon Thames) in the next few weeks. This is a multi-agency inspection of the support provided to children and young people with SEND across education, health and social care.

An important part of the inspection process is hearing the voices of children, young people and families. Ofsted and CQC have therefore compiled surveys for parents and carers, as well as children and young people.

These surveys will allow inspectors to consider the views of key stakeholders across the local SEND system.

In a national response to the Independent Review of Children's Social Care, the government is changing how children's services work across the country.

The changes focus on:

- supporting families earlier
- making services clear and easy to understand
- improving outcomes for children
- working closely with parents, carers and guardians

We want to ensure these changes make life easier for local families. To have your say and have your voice heard in preparation for these changes, families are invited to attend small focus groups to share their opinions. These sessions are taking place across our Windsor and Riverside Family Hubs on 9 and 12 June, respectively.

The new Renters’ Rights Act 2026 came into effect in England from 1 May 2026. With this in mind, Achieving for Children is looking for a dedicated housing professional who can utilise their knowledge and experience to influence and facilitate change across the private housing sector, ensuring excellent outcomes for care leavers.

This is a new and exciting opportunity to establish and develop access to private rented sector accommodation for care leavers in Kingston and Richmond. You will support young people transitioning from care to settled accommodation in adherence to statutory guidelines.
