If you have ever wondered what it is like to study for a massage qualification with us - we recently caught up with St Mary’s School of Massage alumnus, Mark Gibson.
“I think St Mary’s University is great! I began my studies with them doing the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage, which allowed me to launch my career as a sports massage therapist. Since then I have also continued my studies at the university and have progressed to add in both Level 4 and Level 5 sports massage qualifications plus sports taping and strapping.
I knew St Mary’s University well living locally and having had a few of my friends study there and I was aware of its excellent sports reputation. I have always been interested in massage as a career and after lockdown I was ready to make a career change, having spent many years working as a tennis coach.
The courses and study format worked very well for me. The fact that it was coming in once a week made it more attainable, helping me manage the studies around my work and personal life. The tutors were friendly and welcoming and shared a wealth of knowledge.
I have learnt so much since starting out. How amazing our bodies are! How much of a gift the medium of massage is and how much good it can do. I’ve also learnt a whole lot about myself. The way the course was taught helped me grow professionally and personally and has led me towards a path that find very fulfilling.
I would recommend anyone thinking of pursuing a career in sports massage to go for it! It is such a wholesome and healing experience both for practitioner and client.”
💆♀️ Level 3 Sports Massage courses start again on Saturday 22 February and Wednesday 26 February.
💆♂️ Level 5 Sports Massage runs from 1 March.
💆 Level 4 runs from Wednesday 26 March and Sunday 30 March.

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we are catching up with some alumni from St Mary’s School of Massage.
⭐️ Meet Sally! ⭐️
Having had a long career break, I was looking to retrain in a new field. I have always been interested in fitness, health and wellbeing and this led me to take an Anatomy & Physiology short course at St Mary’s. I found this really enjoyable and informative and through this I met the massage tutors and students taking massage courses. This in-turn inspired me to take the course myself!
I was able to fit it easily around work and family life as the contact time was just one day a week and practice, case studies, assignments were in my own time. The workload outside the classroom was manageable and the tutors were helpful in scheduling deadlines and providing support.
It had been many years since I had last studied and I found it quite hard initially to get back into the discipline and habit of learning. I have become much more confident, efficient and organised as I have progressed and his has been a valuable learning from a personal perspective.
I haven’t begun practising as a therapist yet but I plan to, and my friends and family are enjoying the benefits of my training for now!
✨ Our next massage, sports massage and reflexology courses start again on 15th and 18th September. Instalment options are available.
