Come to our Open Morning to hear our head's unique perspective on school life - as a father and a head at the school.

With our excellent yearly 11+ results, we are frequently asked about our approach. The answer is not straight forward as it depends on the individual child. Over the summer, we will unpack some of the wonderful ways The Mall School helps children prepare for their next steps. This is not just exams, but life skills and character strengths too. We want our children to be confident and happy, agile and thoughtful, tech savvy and confident questioners.

✅ It all starts in Reception with Mr Selby and his team forming strong foundations for learning and fun. He sets the tone and the path for the journey ahead.

✅Preparation for 11+ doesn't start in Year 6 - it starts from the moment your child joins the school, with our proven academic programme, personal approach to pastoral care, and our broad and engaging curriculum.

✅ Having your flagship moments: we encourage and foster confidence and curiosity, helping children through their mistakes and their celebrations. We want them to think big, to be bold in their ideas, but also to get things wrong.

✅As parents we often have to be Swiss army knives. Children need their own expanding toolkit to navigate through later life too. Keep in touch to find out how we develop their tools for modern life.

If you want to know more, come and see for yourself.

With over 64 million words read last year at The Mall School, we LOVE reading. Our reading challenge this summer is bingo! Complete all twelve bingo challenges to receive credits and a Headmaster's Commendation in September... and maybe a few surprise awards!

📖 Read a newspaper.

📖 Read a story from your parent's childhood.

📖 Read to someone younger than you.

📖 Read in a den you have made.
(and more...!)

We don't mind where you read, as long as you are enjoying the love of literature this summer, trying something new or learning about something unexpected. Reading is a healthy way to enjoy downtime in what is often a busy environment whether travelling or at home.

We look forward to hearing all about your reading in September!

With girls in classes up to Year 5, we’re not just any co-ed school. We study and scrutinise the most influential women to see how we can learn from them - Emiline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks, Dame Sarah Storey, the Lionesses. They all have their own story to tell, but the theme is often similar - that of hardship, challenge and failure.

“If at first you don’t succeed, you're normal”. Kid President (A big hit in our assemblies!)

✅ We want our girls to be academically strong, but also gritty, resilient, confident in their voice and able to stand out in the crowd.

✅ Confidence in Communication (CiC): Mr Gosden’s forum-style assemblies ensure a safe space for children to compose their ideas, prepare their thoughts and counter-argue someone else. These are the building blocks for each child’s character and personality.

✅ Being yourself: “You have my heartfelt gratitude for bringing [my child] into The Mall. The way your colleagues have rekindled her curiosity, stimulated understanding and supported her in regaining her confidence has been nothing short of transformational.”

✅ Heritage to Horizons: We want children to learn how to decode a passage from a Dicken’s novel, but also learn how drones can be used to deliver medicines in remote areas. Dickens to Drones.

'The pen is mightier than the device' was the standout message from Mr Gosden's speech at prizegiving, which reflected on our Year 6's time at The Mall School. He unpacked how each pupil had written their first chapter of their own story, their own legacy, whilst at The Mall. The characters had been created, but the story which lies ahead remains unwritten. No one else should write the story for you.

"Do not fear your mistakes. Every great story contains setbacks. A hero who never failed, never erred, and never had to try again would make for a remarkably dull tale. Mistakes are rarely the end of a story — more often, they are the beginning of its most valuable lessons. Each time you rise again, ask for help, learn from an error, or try once more, you become a little stronger than you were the day before."

We said goodbye to our wonderful cohort of Year 6 pupils in a gripping, emotionally charged and hugely entertaining evening - off to Hampton, King's Wimbledon, Halliford, Tiffin and many more amazing schools. Importantly, each child is going to the school that is wholly right for them.

This time next year we will be preparing for our first girls to celebrate leadership roles in Year 6, to become part of the school's new legacy of celebrating girls' achievements in a fresh and modern way - heritage to horizons.

Good luck Year 6 - the door is always open to return for advice or to simply reminisce. Keep in touch.

Our yearly Art Fair has been on display in the art department this week with work from Reception to Year 6, providing us with a feast for the eyes! From stenciling to sketching, the children's work is incredible.

We often talk about academic subjects in school and it is wonderful to see the scholarly approach the children take to art, from process through to product, their output of art work is brilliant and it is regularly on display throughout the school corridors, brightening up our day.

There isn't much time to see the art before it is handed out for pupils to take home this summer.

Compete. Celebrate. Support. This year's Athletics Day was no exception, with a host of competitive events on display as children ran, jumped, threw and raced for their house! It was a tight competition, with all four houses in a close competition right until the very end.

Following our medal ceremony, the school settled down to a picnic, accompanied by a Punch and Judy show, and complimentary ice creams from a local van! Fun all round!

Well done to our children who competed with humility, drive and fervour - it was wonderful to see the support on show for each other.

This year, we added our 'Mall Moments' medals, created by the DT department for Athletics Day, to celebrate individual moments of glory - through support for a friend, determination, or resilience in a moment of difficulty. This was highlighted By Mr Gosden in the morning assembly through the wonderful story of Derek Redmond in the 1992 Olympics.

Well done to all - it was amazing to see our community in action.

It was fantastic to see our school community out in full swing on Saturday at our yearly Summer Fair. Thank you to the Mall School Association for everything you do to raise money for charity and support our school.

The children had great fun - the Year 6s selling their Mallian's Den produce, face painting, bouncy castle-things, stalls, and plenty of water to keep us cool. The teachers and the Headmaster received a royal soaking in the stocks - a downside of being so good at cricket!

The Mall Community is clearly strong and ever present. On to Athletics day!

The floor is lava! We're embracing the heat again today with plenty of activities in the shade during our staggered breaktimes. There's water trays are out to keep us cool, and a naughty teacher with a hose!

As a family friendly school, we aren't closing our school early, but supporting the children to soldier on through this heat, preventing parents from taking time away from work. Sensible actions, with a sense of routine. Regrettably some end of term concerts have been cancelled, but we'll make it up!

Welcome home! Year 5 had a fantastic time on their trip to France last week - visiting many local attractions from the aquarium to a boulangerie! Their return completes year's residential trips which have all been incredibly successful across the school. Thank you to our wonderful staff for taking time to organise and support the trips, taking such good care of our pupils. Until next year! 🇫🇷🇬🇧
