Learning before loading ποΈββοΈ
Wilbur learning the hang clean today.
Rep 1 β‘οΈ Good stick path, keeping it close to the body but loses his balance and falls backwards in the catch.
Rep 2 β‘οΈ Better balance and landing but his elbows stay down in the catch and the stick moves away from his body.
Rep 3 β‘οΈ Similar again, landing is improving, but the elbows are still down and the stick is travelling away from the body.
Rep 4 β‘οΈ Better landing and now we see an improved elbow position in the catch. The stick is still moving away from the body so something to work on next week.
And thatβs exactly why we learn before we load.
When young athletes are learning a new movement, we want them to have the freedom to practise, make mistakes, receive feedback and try again without worrying about load.
Not everything improves at once. We focus on one or two things, let them explore the movement and gradually put the pieces together.
