It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Michael Ettridge who died on 30 September. He was one of the founding teachers when the school opened in 1967 and retired in 1987 when he then became a governor of the school too during the big building project.

His funeral will be on 22 October at St John’s at 11.30am.
Funeral mass for Michael is to be held at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Trowbridge on Wednesday 22 October 11.30am

This will be followed by a short committal at the West Wiltshire Crematorium at 1.00pm.

There will be a gathering afterwards at Fieldways Hotel, Trowbridge for some refreshments and to remember Michael and all his stories.

All are welcome to join any part of the day.

Colourful attire is welcome but do wear black if you’d rather.

Family flowers only, donations to Alzheimer's Society.

Hello everyone,

I owe you another update…

I recently had a meeting with some of my other governor colleagues and we have decided on a good use of this impressive pool of talent from our alumni which will directly benefit current and future students.

We would like to expand on what the school currently offers in terms of careers and the use of this network will be central to this effort. Clearly COVID-19 will have an impact but we would like to start moving with this as soon as possible.

I am asking all alumni, who have been in touch with me previously and are willing, to record a short video of themselves covering the following:

• Who you are
• What career/job you are currently in/ others you have been in in the past
• What route you took to get there (University, college, apprenticeship, grad scheme etc) and what qualifications/experience is needed
• What skills and personal qualities you need to do your job.
• How you became aware of the job - would you have known about it in St Augustine's?
• What you do day to day
• What you have done over the course of your career. Highs/lows particular experiences of note
• How to get more information and if you are willing to be approached.

It would be great if we could accumulate as may videos as possible to build up a careers data base. We intend to hang these videos on the secure school SharePoint site (on the internal intranet site NOT online) so that students can watch them, engage and be informed about careers, some of which they would never otherwise come across.

These videos will seek to expose students to what opportunities are out there and should inspire them to realise what has been achieved by former St Augustine's students. If a student wants to find out more information about a certain career, the intention is that they can reach out to that alumni member via email and start a conversation and request further information or advice.

Following this and when COVID-19 is less of a factor, we would like to invite alumni members to come into the school and tell the students about themselves and their experiences, either in assemblies or in organised careers events at the school.

None of this will happen overnight and will take some time and effort. However with your support this will develop into a fantastic resource that will add much value and allow St Augustine's students unique exposure and opportunities.

Once we have built up the list, I will be in touch with all of you who have responded as to how we go forward with this. Clearly this will take some time and the school will need to normalise post COVID-19. A network such as this is more important in this climate as there will be a cohort of students leaving the school who could benefit from some advice through this scheme.

Dear fellow Alumni,

I recently have been given the honour of being a governor of the College and it is a privilege to be in a position to give something back to the School that gave me so much.

One of my responsibilities concerns the Alumni and best pulling together the fantastic pool of talent and experience out there! Most of us on this page are former students and if you, like me had a positive experience at St Augustine’s you will no doubt want to give something back.

My intention is to create a database of former students who have experience in different career fields, willing to offer their advice and support to students, looking to begin a career within that sector. This would be a great way for students to take advantage of our experience and would allow them access to a useful network, which can answer questions and offer advice.

What I am not proposing is a St Augustine’s career service, hosted by the alumni, but a network that may enable some students, who may not have had access normally, to gain knowledge and possibly break into a career field not otherwise available.
