If you're a Ted Lasso fan, I bet this reminds you of one of your favourite scenes!
Irrespective of whether you're a fan or not, what's important here is the meaning...
The phrase "be curious, not judgemental" means to try to understand people (including yourself!) and situations by asking questions first instead of making assumptions, conclusions or criticisms.
When we judge, our mind closes.
When we are curious, our mind stays open to learning and new information.
Where would you rather spend your time?
When was the last time you judged yourself or someone else? Maybe it was the person that cut you up in traffic, maybe it was the parent that ignored you at school drop off, maybe it was the colleague that snapped at you...?
You likely have no idea what is going on for that person so just take a breath and get curious.
Being curious helps you better connect with yourself and others. It reduces stress. Judging wastes energy and often creates anger, while curiosity brings you peace and discovery.
Next time you find that you are judging either yourself or others, try getting curious, not judgemental!
P.S. If you're stuck in a pattern of judging yourself or others, please get in touch , it doesn't have to be like that ๐
