Don't forget that it's the Queen Thorne Garden Show on Saturday!

There is artwork that has been produced by children from across the school displayed there and, there are still prizes up for grabs for the largest geraniums that the children brought home earlier in the year (these can be dropped off between 8am and 10am at Trent Memorial Hall for judging).

It would be great to see the school represented brilliantly as we know lots of the geraniums were looking fantastic!

Two weeks today! Saturday 1st August 2026.

Queen Thorne Garden Club Annual Craft & Flower Show - open to both members and non members. Held at our Village Hall.

Members should have received the schedule and entry form by email - non members please contact one of the committee members (Olivia, Michele, Wendy Love, Marion, Amanda, Roz or myself ) and we will send one out to you. You would be very welcome to put some entries in. (Please don’t private message on here - may be missed!)

This year any artist who wishes to sell their work entered can do (look out for those stickers!)

Show opens to the public 2.30pm
Trophy Presentations 3.45pm

Delicious cakes and refreshments will be available too.

A message from our CEO, Mr Mark Lacey ✨

It has been another very busy term in our 28 schools across the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust. I am deeply grateful to all our staff for the incredible work they do every day. Also to parents who support so many of our activities with so much enthusiasm. Most importantly of all, our wonderful pupils who have thrown themselves into so much learning and activity this year. I have particularly enjoyed attending some wonderful end of year plays and productions this term, where our children have shown such talent and skill. We send our best wishes and prayers to all those leaving us this year for new schools and new opportunities. We know you will go on to achieve great things - thank you for all you have been to us.

Have a great summer!

What a performance of Oliver Jr our amazing KS2 children put on earlier in the month! They all wowed us with their performances and we know we have some budding theatre stars in our midst!

Thank you so much to Sherborne Boys for allowing us to perform in the wonderful Big School Room, to all of our fantastic audience members, and to all of the adults at home who helped learn lines, rehearse songs and source costumes!

What an incredible adventure our Year 5 and 6 classes had at the Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre. The children took on a brilliant mix of outdoor activities, including rock climbing, tunnelling, traverse climbing and a short drive to a beautiful nearby cove for some mega paddleboarding.

Thank you to all the children for their bravery, cooperation, wonderful teamwork and endless enthusiasm. You represented the school beautifully and did us all proud!

Fox and Owl Classes had an eye-opening and action-packed trip to the Carymoor Environmental Trust as part of our geography unit on climate change and sustainability! We walked through a waste tunnel and explored rubbish through the decades. It reminded us about why the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is so important. We also had a site tour, walking along their capped landfill with many layers of rubbish underneath the ground and visited the waste transfer station to see and learn that landfill sent here is incinerated to create electricity for thousands of houses! The children also played team building games by trying to dispose of toxic waste as well as comparing test tubes of rubbish and deciding on its impact on our planet.
The trip was a powerful, hands-on reminder of exactly why the 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) are so incredibly important for our future!

Y6 Okehampton Day 2 ✅

What an amazing day! The children haven't stopped and have had the best time. Thankfully, it's been cooler than it has been back at school but we've still found every bit of shade we have been able to. It has still been very warm but the children have been fantastic and have been so supportive to each other!

After a full, cooked breakfast, we were straight into grass sledging and axe throwing (yes, real, proper axes!) before then heading back into lunch. Climbing was the theme after lunch as we conquered both the high ropes course and the climbing wall before pizza and sticky toffee pudding at dinner. Finally, we've been doing archery and the blind trail - another first for a lot of us!

It's much quieter this evening with almost all rooms now quiet and asleep ready for packing, breakfast and our cycle tour in the morning.

Day 1 at Adventure Okehampton✅

It's been a very warm day but the children have coped brilliantly and have all had an amazing time. Having settled in and found their rooms, they were thrown straight into action as we headed to Meldon Gorge for a spot of gorge scrambling. The cold water was a very welcome relief and we had saw lots of jumping in, splashing and fantastic teamwork.

Having enjoyed a lovely chicken pie and chocolate brownie, we've had a gentle evening with games being played, a bit of football on the TV and finished a bit of an Oliver sing-a-long!

Mrs Thomson, Miss Hamm and Mr Hamblin are currently sat in the landing waiting for the last few voices to drift off to sleep.

We've got a very busy day planned tomorrow with high ropes, grass sledging, archery, axe throwing and the climbing wall all in the mix!

Well done to our amazing KS2 athletics team who competed in the Sherborne Area athletics meet yesterday afternoon. The children took part in a range of running events, long jump and throwing with great enthusiasm. We were pleased to see so many children keen to take part, managed some 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes, and also came 3rd out of 8 schools in the relay!
