Uplyme Pre-School was established about 30 years ago in the village hall of Uplyme, close to the seaside resort of Lyme Regis. The group moved to a new village hall in 1994. The area is primarily rural, with the majority of parents in employment. The Pre-school’s overall management is undertaken by an annually elected committee, made up mainly of parents, who act together as the policy makers and the employers of all the staff. This is in line with the group’s constitution, which was adopted by our group at an Annual General Meeting. We are Ofsted registered and have regular inspections; we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage for children from birth to five years. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Our aim is to provide a safe, welcoming and happy environment in which children can develop their full potential whilst learning through play. We believe the best way to do this is to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage by:
1. provide well-planned experiences based on children’s spontaneous play, both indoors and outdoors,
2. meeting the individual needs of each child and to plan a curriculum accordingly,
3. promoting positive attitudes to diversity and difference, making all children feel valued and included,
4. ensure parents are fully involved with learning and children’s views are considered,
5. to maintain a high ratio of adults to children, have well qualified and continued training for staff,
6. allowing children to explore and develop experiences that will help them make sense of the world, build concepts and ideas, understand the need for rules and communicate with others,
7. enable children to think creatively, imaginatively, investigate and problem solve.
8. by continued self evaluation and monitoring,
9. ensuring effective continuity and progression for children attending more than one setting by sharing relevant information with each other and parents. We have completed our extension that has provided new storage and children’s toilets. The children now have purpose built toilets that are have child sized facilities, this enables them to be more independent. The new storage area is much bigger and easier for the staff and children to access. Our next project is to build outside cover so that we can play in the fresh air even in bad weather
