Trigger warning!!!

We often share the ups and down in society around domestic and s*xual abuse on our page, but today however we are going to celebrate a win for one of our ladies, it's another win for women but it's also a win for this incredibly strong survivor who was r***d by her partner. This lady wants us to share this on our page to show other women that coming forward and standing strong is possible.

She has finally got the justice she so deserves, he's been found guilty and is due for sentencing..

The road to this justice, however hasn't been easy, 5 years of waiting, 3 trial dates, 5 different ISVA's and 3 different Solo's isn't ideal and we have to make changes to the system somewhere, as this system is broken. But persevering with it and staying strong in your truth is what it takes.

Here is a little note from the survivor, we are so proud of you :-)

"Hey Claire, I just wanted to share some news with you. Last week my case against my ex finally made it to court. He was found guilty and is due for sentencing.
I went to so many groups, and counsellors and none of them got through to me like you did. None of them made me forgive myself or understand that this wasn't my fault. Without you, I would not have got to this point and I honestly cannot thank you enough x"

If you are struggling and want to reach out for support, please go to our website, or use the form pinned to the top of our FB page or email us on [email protected]. We can help you recover after abuse.

Topic talk today..

At Phoenix Rising we believe the law should change and make domestic abuse laws to include 13-16 year olds

Here’s what we think:

Currently a victim of domestic abuse in the governments definition of domestic abuse is aged 16 and over. Children under 16 in their own right are victims if experiencing domestic abuse within their environment, household this was a huge postive change to the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, but we need it to change even further for our younger children.

The issue is!!

We know that children as young as 12 can be a victim of domestic abuse and in abusive relationships, even more so nowadays. With the rise of social media’s impact on our children, and the pressure to be “in a relationship” also with toxic social influencers reaching our younger children, teaching them how to treat their women, teenage boys ra**ng teenage girls, po*******hy being so easily reachable. All of this is impacting the younger generation, and more younger children are in their own abusive, controlling relationships.

Examples that we know of, girls having tracking on their phones from boyfriends, using disappearing messages on what’s app so their abuse can’t be seen or found, pressurising to have s*x or commit s*xual acts, controlling what they wear, what makeup to wear, isolating from school friends.
All the above are real experiences from teenagers ages 12 that we have talked to or disclosed by their mums and so much more.

Basically the same as any female over the age of 16yrs old, yet it’s not recognised!!

Young people aged 13 to 17 experience the highest rates of domestic abuse of any age group, yet too many are still falling through the gaps.

The issue with this is, the younger they are in these relationships, the easier it is to see that toxic behaviour as normal, and they then face ongoing abusive relationships into adulthood.

So this needs to change, the law needs to change around this.

Who else agrees? What’s your thoughts on this subject? Do you know any teenagers who’ve experienced domestic abuse younger than 16?
We always appreciate your support, voices and view points, it all goes towards making change.
