🌟 A Wonderful Week of Exploring & Learning! 🌟

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had at nursery! 💕 Our Mini explorers have been busy exploring and discovering through a range of sensory and imaginative activities these have included sand trays, sensory bags and rice trays.

The little explorers have been investigating the ice 🧊 and discovering the creatures in our sea creature tray 🐠. They’ve also enjoyed using their imaginations at a special tea party with their friends! 🫖🍰

Our Preschool children have also been busy learning and having lots of fun! They have been taking part in maths activities, developing their problem-solving and number skills, getting stuck into car cleaning 🚗🧽 and creating some fantastic artwork with balloon painting 🎈🎨.

It’s been wonderful to see the children learning, exploring, creating and having fun together throughout the week! 🌈✨

Summer reading challenge update 📚📖

From exploring minibeasts and matching different insects, to diving under the sea with sensory play and enjoying a teddy bears’ picnic inspired by Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the children in mini explorers have been bringing stories to life through play. Each activity has encouraged lots of talking, exploring, imaginative play and new vocabulary, helping the children make connections between the books we share and their own play experiences.

Little Explorers have continued to bring stories to life through play. The children voted for their favourite book, explored water play inspired by Sharing a Shell, enjoyed story-based small world play and got creative designing their own book covers. Owl Babies inspired the children to explore feathers and nests, while The Colour Monster encouraged lots of conversations around colours, feelings and emotions. There were lots of opportunities for sensory exploration, sorting, counting, matching and developing fine motor skills along the way.

Pre School have also been busy with their Summer Reading Challenge, using stories as a starting point for learning across lots of different areas. The Gingerbread Man inspired creative painting, counting and fine motor activities, as well as making their own gingerbread mixture. The children explored and tasted different fruits alongside Handa’s Surprise, while other stories inspired lots of small world and sensory play.

We love seeing how our Summer Reading Challenge is encouraging the children to explore stories in so many different ways and showing them that books can lead to so much more than simply reading a story! 📚☀️

Each of our rooms/mini teams chose their own evening out as a little thank you for all of their hard work.

It was lovely to see each team spending time together away from the nursery, making memories and celebrating everything they achieve throughout the year.

A huge thank you to every member of our team for your dedication, kindness and commitment to our children and families. We appreciate everything you do and are so grateful to have such a wonderful team.

Today we celebrated Friendship Day through some lovely stories and activities.

The children enjoyed sharing The Rainbow Fish and Stop Monkeying Around, talking about what makes a good friend and how kindness can make others feel.

From decorating their own Rainbow Fish with sparkling scales to creating friendship people and threading beads together to make friendship bracelets, there were so many opportunities to work together, share resources and celebrate being kind to one another.

It linked beautifully with our Summer Reading Challenge theme, ‘A Book About Friendship’, bringing the stories to life through play, creativity and shared experiences. 📚💛

Weekly round up and Summer Reading Challenge Update ☀️📚

Our Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing and we are absolutely loving seeing the different ways each room is bringing stories to life!

From retelling We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in our tuff tray, exploring farm animals, sensory messy play and small world adventures, to creating giraffes, rescuing frozen animals and using technology to take pictures of nature in the garden, every activity has been inspired by the wonderful books the children have been sharing.

A huge thank you to all of our families who have brought books in from home. Your support has been incredible and has given us such a fantastic variety of stories to enjoy together. It has been lovely to see the children’s excitement as they spot familiar books and share their favourites with their friends.

Our Summer Reading Challenge is all about showing children that stories can be enjoyed in so many different ways. Reading doesn’t stop when you close the book. It sparks imagination, creativity, exploration and conversation.

We can’t wait to see what adventures next week’s books will inspire! 📖💚

🍃 Summer Reading Challenge Update 📚

Today our Little Explorers completed another challenge in our Summer Reading Challenge by reading The World Needs the Wonder You See by Joanna Gaines.

Inspired by the story, the children headed outside to become nature explorers! Armed with magnifying glasses and cameras, the children carefully searched our outdoor environment, looking closely at flowers, insects, leaves and all the wonderful things nature has to offer. They even took their own photographs to capture the things that caught their eye.

It was wonderful to see the children slowing down, observing the world around them and sharing their excitement as they discovered something new. A perfect way to bring our story to life while encouraging curiosity, communication and an appreciation of the natural world.

I wonder what reading challenge will be completed tomorrow!

Summer Reading Challenge!

Throughout the summer, every room in the nursery will be taking part in a fun reading challenge designed to encourage a love of books and stories. Reading together helps to develop children’s language, imagination, communication skills and confidence in story telling, and we can’t wait to share lots of wonderful stories with them.

Each room will be working towards the same 20 Story Challenges. Rather than reading specific books, The challenges are…

😂 A book that makes you laugh.
🦁 A book about animals.
🎵 A book with rhyming words.
🗺️ A book about an adventure.
🧠 A book that teaches you something new.
🌿 A book about nature.
🎉 A book about a celebration.

The exciting part is that each room will choose its own books. This means each room can enjoy stories that are appropriate for their age and interests while taking part in the same nursery-wide challenge.

Every time a room completes a challenge, they will collect the matching emoji and add it to their challenge display. Families will be able to watch each room’s progress as they work towards collecting all 20 emojis.

At the end of the challenge, we’ll celebrate together and every room that has collected all 20 emojis will be crowned our Summer Story Champions and will receive a book voucher to spend on new books for their room.

Friday Round-Up 🧁🌲🍦🌊✨

We’ve had another busy and exciting week full of creativity, sensory exploration and imaginative play.

The children enjoyed decorating cupcake pictures using colourful sequins and collage materials. They carefully chose where to place each decoration, developing their fine motor skills while creating their own unique cupcake masterpieces.

Our baking-themed sensory activity was a huge success, with the children scooping, pouring and filling cupcake cases with a soft powder mixture. This provided plenty of opportunities for imaginative play while encouraging early mathematical language and strengthening little hands.

Nature was brought indoors with our pinecone and sunflower seed sensory tray. The children loved exploring the different textures, filling and emptying containers, hiding objects and discovering natural treasures through play.

The ice cream shop has continued to be a favourite this week. The children enjoyed serving ice creams, taking orders, counting scoops and chatting with their friends, developing their communication, social skills and confidence through role play.

Our sea-themed sensory tray encouraged lots of imaginative thinking as the children explored sand, water and ocean animals. They created their own stories, talked about the different sea creatures and enjoyed scooping, pouring and investigating the materials.

We also introduced a loose parts sensory tray filled with ribbons, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, pegs and cardboard tubes. The children used their imaginations to create, build and explore in their own unique ways, showing fantastic creativity and problem-solving skills.

It has been lovely to see so much curiosity, collaboration and enthusiasm throughout the week. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another week of fun and learning together! 💛
