Volunteer crew complete training at RNLI HQ to prepare for sea rescue. You can read about our latest recruit Timothy's experience.

The station’s latest volunteer recently travelled to the specialist facility RNLI College in Poole, Dorset to complete emergency procedures training for new boat crew. Trainees practise in the training pool there to prepare for real life rescue service.

🚨 SHOUT TO BUTE !!! 🚨

On Saturday afternoon our pagers went off to assist a vessel that had run aground reportedly with engine difficulties on Bute!

Despite the busy holiday traffic the volunteer crew were at the station and launched the lifeboat in 10 minutes. This enabled us to make good speed to the south of Bute even with the Clyde being choppy at times.

On arrival at the scene they joined the volunteer crew from RNLI Tighnabruaich Lifeboat and on the shore were Rothesay Coastguard Rescue Team.

The casualty vessel was luckily very lightly grounded and the coastguard were able to push them into deeper water. The casualty vessel then left the scene with the engine now working.

Luckily Arran RNLI’s crew weren't needed so were stood down and arrived home to the boathouse in Lamlash where the lifeboat was cleaned, refueled and made ready for service.

A special thanks needs to be said to all the crew who stayed on shore to assist with launch & recovery. It was very busy and a lot of public were close to the lifeboat station … our shore crew did a great job of keeping everyone safe while still understanding the urgency of the situation.

If you see someone in trouble at sea or along the coast, please don’t hesitate to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

With more hot weather forecast this week, the RNLI and Water Safety Scotland are teaming up to remind everyone to stay safe while enjoying the water 🌊

If you are keen to feel the cool embrace of Scottish water during the warm weather, then remember, warm air does not mean warm water. Scotland’s water remains cool when the sun would say otherwise.
