I'm Mandy, a qualified teacher with over 15 years teaching experience. I have taught across the primary age range and have a real passion for supporting children in a variety of subjects, especially building confidence, adapting learning to meet individual needs and interests, giving regular feedback on progress and developing resilient learners. Over my teaching career, I have been a classteacher
, deputy headteacher and acting headteacher as well as a subject lead for science, maths, computing, English and more! I studied mathematics with education studies at the University of Cambridge and went on to gain my PGCE too. A few years into my career I also gained the mathematics specialist teacher qualification from the University of Northampton. I offer sessions of 45 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes. I will provide regular feedback to parents to show what is covered in each session and to monitor progress. Maths
I have a thorough knowledge of the expectations in the maths curriculum and can break down areas of maths into smaller achievable steps. My extensive knowledge of maths allows me to identify and work on learning gaps as they arise as well as challenge and extend children aiming for a greater depth of knowledge. Phonics
Phonics is the foundation to teaching children to read and spell. I can support your child to build these necessary skills with a variety of games, written practise and reading examples. Reading
I offer reading tuition to enhance children's comprehension skills when reading a variety of texts and genres through a range of practise including retrieval, deduction and inference. My sessions will also aim to develop children's enjoyment of reading for pleasure. Writing
Children can have some fantastic ideas for writing and my sessions will focus on building their skills to allow them to effectively communicate these in their written work. I can practise a variety of writing skills during tutoring sessions, including handwriting/ letter formation, sentence structures, spellings, awareness of their audience and developing wider vocabulary. I offer 60 minutes maths tuition taking place in the student's home. Maths
My degree in mathematics with education studies has given me an understanding of a variety of mathematical concepts and my teaching experience means I can break these down into teachable steps. I am able to offer tuition to children working in both Key Stage Three and at GCSE foundation and higher level for maths. Home education
I also offer 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours, 2.5 hours or 3 hour home education tutoring sessions. These sessions will take place in the child's home and are better suited for primary aged children. The session can focus on one subject or a variety of subjects, depending on length of time. The subjects I can offer for the home education tutoring sessions are maths, reading, writing, science*, art*, geography, DT*, history and computing*. At the end of each session I will share with parents the areas covered in the session, outcomes and the planned areas for the following week.
