Artists often work with clay in a looser way — not trying to control every detail, but going with how the clay behaves. They adjust as they go, and that’s usually what gives the pieces more personality.
Erik’s () mugs are a good example of that. They sit somewhere between a mug and a small sculpture — each one a bit different, each with its own character.

Debbie’s approach to clay is slow and deliberate, so nerikomi feels like a natural fit.

It’s a technique where the pattern is built into the clay itself rather than applied on the surface — coloured clays are layered, compressed, then sliced to reveal the design before shaping.

It demands patience. Patterns shift, colours bleed, and every step affects the final result.

A process that rewards slowing down and staying precise.
