We've had a few questions about our new Tuesday schedule so here are a few more details.

Our NEW beginners only class (which starts tonight) is an additional class to our roster which runs from 6pm to 7pm every Tuesday. It is designed intentionally for beginners to have sensei's full attention and cover the white and yellow belt syllabus so everyone can train at a level suitable for beginners who have never trained martial arts or Jujutsu before. Slower pace, first steps, safety first.

7pm to 9pm remains unchanged, is open to all levels and will include our mix of syllabus, sport and free time to roll / spar / drill. White belt r/s and above are welcome, but you are expected to be able to break fall and train safely. These classes will largely be targeted towards orange to blue belt level syllabus skills.

Thursday and Sunday classes remain the same, mixed abilities, 1 hour syllabus, 30 mins open training.

I can't make Tuesdays but I want to start, can I still come?

Yes, absolutely, you can come to any of our classes and we will split you from the main group.

Can I do Tuesdays 6pm to 8pm ?

Yes, if you are between white and yellow you can recap the basics then join the normal class for an hour of syllabus. You may just recap some techniques in the second hour. Cost £10.

I can't make it this week can I still join later?

Yes absolutely, we don't run as courses, we have beginners joining us continuously throughout the year. Just come along when you can and we'll get you started.

We look forward to seeing you on the mats!

I still remember what it was like walking through the door on day one, not knowing anyone and not knowing what to expect.

That’s exactly why we’ve created a brand new beginners only Jujutsu class at TJK Tewkesbury.

Tuesdays, 6pm to 7pm
Wheatpieces Community Centre, Tewkesbury

We’ll take things at a slower pace, work through our beginners syllabus and start building practical, real world self defence skills from your very first class.

You don’t need any previous martial arts experience. You don’t need to already be fit. You just need to turn up and give it a go, alongside other beginners who are starting in exactly the same position.

Your first class is completely FREE.

If you enjoy it and want to continue, classes are £8 each, pay as you go, with no contracts and no pressure.

We’re also running a special introductory offer first 4 classes for just £4 to kick off your training as we teach so much in Jujutsu it takes a few classes to get a taste of everything we cover.

TJK Tewkesbury has now been running for over three years and the time has absolutely flown by. We’ve built a brilliant group of members who have stuck with their training, put in the hours and are now progressing into more advanced techniques, pressure testing and sparring.

We currently run three all levels classes every week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

As the club has grown, we wanted to create something specifically for brand new starters, giving beginners more time, attention and space to learn the fundamentals without feeling like they have to keep up with more experienced students.

Once you’ve built your confidence and mastered the basics, you’re welcome to join any of our regular classes and continue your training from there.

New class!

Beginners only.
Tuesdays, 6pm to 7pm. Starting 8th of September.

You've spoken, and we've listened. From September there's a class with nobody senior on the mat, just beginners, white belts and yellow belts.

Slower pace, small numbers, time to get it right

The full TJK self-defence syllabus from step one

Beginners, white belts and yellow belts only

Every Tuesday, 6.00pm – 7.00pm · £8

Six skillsets.

Jujutsu is the system the modern martial arts grew out of. You get the striking, the throws, the ground and the practical self-defence together, not spread across four different memberships.

01

Real self-defence

Reality-based scenarios, restraints, personal protection and weapon and knife defence. The core of the TJK syllabus, used by police and armed forces around the world.

02

Throws & takedowns

Jujutsu and Judo throws, trips and takedowns, and how to fall safely, which you'll learn in your very first hour.

03

Striking

Effective, powerful striking taught with control. Pads and partner drills first, rounds only when you want them.

04

Ground skills

Applied submission grappling groundwork. Control, escapes and submissions that work when you're not on a competition mat.

05

Sport jujutsu

Kumite, submission grappling and grapple & strike. Compete if you want to, plenty of our members never do.

06

Traditional roots

Japanese lineage, a structured grading syllabus, and the discipline and respect that come with it.

First class free, then £8 pay as you go. Wheatpieces community centre, Tewkesbury.

So far this summer we've covered...

No-gi throws and takedowns using underhooks with a deep dive into body locks, underhooks, whizzers and using the underhook as a fundamental clinch in no-gi grappling. Including hip bumps, body lock step overs, Uchi matas, snap downs and much more.

Understanding straight ankle locks, entering them, applying them, defending them, the breaking mechanics, the variations, counters and combinations.

Open guard, passing open guard for self-defence, submission grappling and MMA. Why we use open guard and how it changes for different rules. Including rugby pass, entering arm bars, how to react when someone pulls guard, knee cut passes, staple passes and more.

We're now working on submission defence and escapes. Including flow rolling drills into submissions, allowing partners to escape with their own problem solving skills and repeating. Continually entering and escaping submissions until getting stuck, then as a club we go through the escapes and drill to solve the problem. So far this has included, escaping Ude Garami (Kimura) from closed guard, deep triangle escapes, no-gi Ezekiel escapes, escaping darce chokes, and more.

Join us tonight for another submission escape class. 7.30pm to 9pm. Tewkesbury.

You've spoken, and we've listened!

We've felt the demand for beginner focussed classes with a slower pace, small class numbers and adherence to our renowned TJK self-defence syllabus.

Starting September we will be introducing a NEW beginners only class. Every Tuesday 6pm to 7pm. This is a new additional class and more details will follow shortly. Available for new students up to yellow belt only.
