A great morning at the Primary Heads Forum in Telford! 💻🏫

Paul and Ollie really enjoyed meeting and chatting with local headteachers today, sharing more about RoarTech and how we can support schools with everything from IT services and technical support to computing curriculum development, staff training and pupil workshops.

A big thank you to all the headteachers who took the time to stop by, have a chat and hear more about what we have to offer. It was great to make new connections and catch up with some familiar faces too!

We’re looking forward to continuing those conversations and supporting even more schools across Telford and beyond.

I went looking for a shiny new Google Classroom feature and accidentally found a potential assessment system. 😅

Objective → assignment → rubric → markbook → progress over time.

Then Google went and added AI into the mix.

So naturally, I spent far too long poking at it to work out whether it’s genuinely useful… or just another button teachers will ignore until 2028.

How are we actually assessing and tracking progress in the classroom right now? 👀

Spreadsheets? Notes? Different platforms? A bit of everything?

With Google Classroom introducing new Learning Goals, progress tracking and AI-generated rubrics, there are some interesting new ways teachers could bring more of that assessment into one place.

I’ve been testing the new features and looking at how they could work in a real classroom, not just where the buttons are.

🤖 First look at the Cogs!

This week’s Code Club was all about exploring the Robotical Cogs for the first time.

Before we start programming, the pupils had chance to get hands-on, discover what the Cogs can do and test out some of the pre-loaded activities. Plenty of experimenting, problem-solving and already a few ideas for what we could create with them next! 👀

Next week, we take things a step further and start coding them ourselves.

🤖 New robots. New challenges. Plenty of experimenting!

In one of this week’s Code Clubs, the pupils got their first hands-on look at the Robotical Cogs.

Before jumping straight into coding, we gave everyone time to explore. They got familiar with how the Cog works, discovered some of its capabilities and tried out a range of the pre-loaded activities.

The best part was hearing the ideas already starting to appear about what we could make the Cogs do in future projects. 👀

Next week, we move from playing to programming as we start controlling the Cogs ourselves.

And there’s one important computing word we’ll be coming back to…
