If your foot always gets stuck halfway up your mat, or feels like a 5 lb brick whenever you try to step forward...
I’m willing to bet I can get you unstuck by the end of this post.

I hear the “arms too short” thing ALL the time.
Instead of blaming our body parts for why things are hard, let’s understand how the movement actually works.

Stepping your foot through requires you to create SPACE for your leg.
In order to create the space we need, we need to do something with our HIPS!

Lift your hips HIGH AS F**K.
Come on to the tippy tippy toes of your back foot. But that’s not all…

You ALSO need to create clearance under your torso. For this, 2 things:
1) PUSH the ground away (protract your shoulder blades)
2) Pull your belly IN

Pull your knee as close to your chest as you can, while pushing the ground away to create that space.
Practice lowering and lifting your knee under your body.
Each time you lift, try to pike your hips a little higher.
This trains the compression needed to step through.

Still not enough space?
You can do ALL of this with your hands on blocks!
Blocks elevate the floor so you can focus on the hips and the shoulder actions.

If you’ve been stuck on this transition, limb length is NOT
your issue (and it never was).
Understanding the details that make a movement happen and training each piece is the key.

I loooove debunking myths like this, because most of the time you're not doing something "wrong," you just haven't been shown how it actually works in your body.
Follow along for more :)

✨ Master the Half Forward Fold (Ardha Uttanasana)! ✨

A flat back is more important than touching the floor. Hinge from your hips, engage your core, and keep your spine long. If your hands don't reach the floor comfortably, place them on yoga blocks to maintain proper alignment and protect your lower back.

Benefits:
✓ Helps improve spinal alignment and posture
✓ Activates the core for better stability
✓ Stretches the hamstrings and calves
✓ Reduces strain on the lower back by maintaining a neutral spine
✓ Encourages proper hip hinging for safer forward bends

Good form always beats deeper range. Practice mindfully and let your flexibility improve naturally. 🧘‍♀️

🧘‍♀️ Perfect your Chair Pose (Utkatasana) with proper alignment!

Keeping your shoulders relaxed, core engaged, tailbone tucked, and weight in your heels helps you activate the right muscles while protecting your knees and lower back. Avoid arching your back or shifting your weight onto your toes to make the pose safer and more effective.

✨ Benefits of Correct Chair Pose Alignment:
✔️ Strengthens the thighs, glutes, and calves
✔️ Improves core stability and posture
✔️ Protects the knees and lower back from strain
✔️ Enhances balance and body awareness
✔️ Builds endurance and functional leg strength

Plank vs. forearm plank: what’s the difference, biomechanically? 🤔

When targeting the anterior core in a yoga context (i.e., the abdominals), plank pose is a great choice!

In plank pose, gravity pulls our pelvis and spine toward the ground ⬇️ – and to resist this pull, our abdominals (and hip flexors!) activate to keep the pelvis and spine lifted. That’s why plank is such an effective core-targeting pose! 🔥

But did you know that if we want to challenge our anterior core even more, we can shift into a *forearm plank*?

In forearm plank, our body is more horizontal compared to the diagonal arrangement of regular plank. This positioning intensifies the effect of gravity on the pelvis and spine, as gravity acts straight down toward the floor.

➖➖

Do you find forearm plank more challenging for your abdominals than plank?

When I ask people this, most say yes – but a few always say no!

Biomechanically, forearm plank *does* subject the abdominals to more extension torque (a force that tries to arch the spine), which means the abdominals work harder in this position.

But depending on your individual body and your relative strength levels between your upper body and your core, the pose could *feel* challenging in a different way than it does for most people. This could be one reason why forearm plank might feel less challenging than plank for a minority of people.

Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana (Revolved Head-to-Knee Pose) ✨

A small adjustment can make a big difference. Keep your chest open, lengthen both sides of your torso, relax your neck, and ground your sitting bone to experience a deeper, safer stretch. Practicing with proper alignment improves flexibility, spinal mobility, and overall posture while reducing the risk of strain.
