Delighted to share some wonderful news about one of our speakers…

Professor Tim Mawson has been appointed Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at the University of Oxford.

It is a richly deserved promotion and we are particularly delighted because A-Level Religious Studies students will have the opportunity to hear Tim in person at both of our London events this November.

Tim has that rare ability to take some of the biggest questions in philosophy of religion and make them intellectually demanding, lucid and genuinely engaging for sixth-form students.

At this year’s Academy Learning A-Level RS events, he will be speaking on:

“What Would God Have to Be Like?”

For students studying Philosophy of Religion, this is an extraordinary opportunity: to hear Professor Tim Mawson, one of the world’s leading philosophers of religion, take them beyond the textbook and into the arguments themselves.

Stephen Meyer on why science is challenging the arguments of Richard Dawkins and the New Atheists.

This really took me back to my wonderful season in Australia and New Zealand. So much of the article mirrors the content, and even the order, of some of the talks I gave there on the origins of the universe.

Fascinating to see these questions continuing to generate such debate.

Our A-Level Philosophy Ethics and Religion Lectures taking place in Oxford, London and Cambridge this November and December.

This year we are bringing together an exceptional group of university academics, including Professor Alister McGrath, Professor Daphne Hampson, Professor Brad Ho**er, Dr Tim Mawson and Professor Daniel Moulin. The aim is to take students into serious scholarship, while keeping the material directly useful for their A-Level studies.

A particular feature of the conference is the detailed academic notes and resources students take away with them, giving teachers material they can continue to use for classroom learning, revision and higher-level evaluation.

Happy to be back home in the UK and excited to be at in October for our first academy learning event of the academic year!

UK Intermediates Conferences — The One with Nanotechnology! 🔬
What a fantastic way to kick off the new academic year, bringing together curious and ambitious young minds to explore some BIG ideas.

🔬 Nanotechnology — from new materials and energy storage to brain implants, and the ethical questions that come with these emerging technologies.
🌍 Cultural relativism & morality — are right and wrong determined by culture, or are there universal moral values?
🏛️ Aristotle — exploring what makes a good person, the purpose of society, and how we seek truth through reason and observation.
🐾 Debate — This House believes that animals have rights, giving students the opportunity to challenge assumptions, build arguments and listen to different perspectives.

This is exactly what Academy Learning is about: creating opportunities for gifted and more able students to think deeply, ask difficult questions, challenge ideas and learn from one another.

It will be a brilliant start to what promises to be another exciting year of learning, discussion and discovery!
