🐾 Crate Training: It’s Not a Punishment

A crate shouldn’t be somewhere your dog is sent because they’ve done something wrong.

Done properly, crate training gives your dog a safe, calm space where they can switch off and relax.

For puppies especially, learning to settle is just as important as learning to sit, stay or walk nicely on a lead.

✅ Introduce the crate gradually
✅ Build positive associations
✅ Keep sessions short to begin with
✅ Reward calm behaviour
✅ Never use the crate as punishment

The goal isn’t to simply shut your dog away.

It’s to teach them that their crate is their own safe space — somewhere they’re comfortable choosing to settle.

Take your time, build it properly, and you’ll have a skill that can make life easier for both you and your dog.

🐾 PUPPY SOCIALISATION ISN’T ABOUT MEETING EVERYONE.

Good socialisation is about giving your puppy controlled, positive experiences — not throwing them into chaotic playdates with every dog they see.

Short, calm exposures to new people, dogs, places, sounds and environments will do far more for their long-term confidence than overwhelming them.

The key? Watch your puppy. 👀

If they start to look unsure, uncomfortable or overwhelmed, don’t force the interaction. Create some space and finish on a positive note.

You’re building confidence, not testing it.

☀️ The heat might feel manageable to us, but it can become dangerous for our dogs far quicker than most people realise.
In this video, Dan shares some simple advice that every dog owner should know during the current hot weather.
A few small changes to your routine can make a huge difference:
🐾 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
💧 Always carry fresh water
🌳 Seek shade whenever possible
🚗 Never leave your dog in a parked car
🌡️ Learn the signs of heatstroke
🐶 If in doubt, don't risk it
Your dog's wellbeing always comes first.
If you're ever unsure whether it's safe to walk your dog, or you need help with behaviour or training, get in touch with Aesir Training K9.
Stay safe, stay cool, and give your dog the best chance to enjoy the summer. ❤️

Your dog isn’t reactive because he’s broken. He’s reactive because he doesn’t trust you to handle what’s happening outside.

Think about it. At home he’s perfect. Listens, comes back when called, waits for his food. Take him outside and he loses the plot completely — lunging, barking, dragging you down the street.

It’s not the dogs or the people or the squirrels. It’s the pressure. Outside, the world is unpredictable. Your dog doesn’t believe you can handle it, so he takes over and handles it himself. That’s what reactivity actually is.

Trust fixes it. And trust comes from leadership — not treats, not avoidance, not crossing the road every time another dog appears.

If reactivity or aggression is something you’re dealing with right now, comment REACTIVE and I’ll send you the link for a free consultation.
