🌟 We’re really excited to be bringing our new venture, The Smart Start Skills Hub to St Anne’s School, Banstead this September!

This isn’t a traditional tutoring club. It’s a fun, active after-school session designed to help children build the skills that support them both in school and beyond.

Each week, children will take part in different games, challenges and hands-on activities focused on skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, communication, resilience and independence.

The biggest thing for us is that children enjoy coming. After a full day at school, we don’t want it to feel like another lesson! We want them to learn through playing, creating, moving and working together — building their confidence without even realising how much they’re learning.

We can’t wait to get started at St Anne’s Banstead and welcome our first group of Smart Start Skills Hub children!

I’m absolutely thrilled to share that Smart Start Tutoring has been named Tutoring Service of the Year – Surrey in the London & South East England Prestige Awards 2026! 🎉

When I left teaching after more than 15 years in the classroom, I had one simple goal: to create a place where children felt supported, understood and excited to learn.

To now have that vision recognised with this award is something I never imagined.

What makes this recognition even more special is the feedback from the judges. They highlighted our personal approach, supportive community and the educational content we share online—the very things that have always been at the heart of Smart Start Tutoring.

This award belongs to every family who has trusted me with their child’s learning. Whether we’ve been building confidence in different subjects, preparing for SATs, the 11+, supporting children with SEND, or simply helping a child believe in themselves again, it has been an absolute privilege to be part of so many learning journeys.

To every parent who has recommended us, left a review, shared a post or cheered us on - thank you. Your support has helped Smart Start Tutoring grow into something I am incredibly proud of.

I asked some of my amazing tutees one simple question:

“What are you most proud of achieving this year?”

Their answers are exactly why I love what I do.

For some, it’s reading with confidence. For others, it’s mastering times tables, tackling tricky maths, improving their writing or simply believing in themselves again.

Success looks different for every child, and that’s how it should be. At Smart Start Tutoring, it’s never just about test scores. It’s about building confidence, celebrating progress and helping every child discover that they can do it.

I’m so proud of every single one of them, as well as the many more not in the video! Thank you for letting me be part of your journey. 🌟

⚽ Learning is always more fun when it starts with something children love!

Not every maths lesson has to be numbers on a worksheet.

Our football-mad children explored graphs by looking at the goalscorers from the World Cup. Suddenly, collecting data, plotting points and interpreting graphs had a real purpose.

Whether it’s football, Minecraft, Pokémon, gymnastics, animals or Taylor Swift, we love finding ways to weave children’s interests into our sessions.

Why?

Because when learning feels relevant, children become more engaged, more motivated and, most importantly, more confident.

After teaching for over 15 years, I’ve learnt that the best lessons don’t start with a worksheet… they start with the child.

You’re not alone. I've heard it from many parents.

Maths has changed. Grammar terminology is different. Reading methods aren’t always what we learnt at school.

As parents, we often feel guilty that we can’t explain things the way our children are taught today.

The good news? You don’t have to know all the answers.

The most important thing you can do is encourage your child, ask questions and show them that it’s okay not to know everything.

That’s where I come in. As an experienced teacher, I can take the pressure off at home, explain things in a way that makes sense and help children grow in confidence, without the battles over homework.
