Just starting out on your research? It all starts with you!

Write down everything you know about your own family. Talk to your relatives to find out what they know. Ask what papers and certificates they may have lurking in the attic.
Only when that's exhausted should you turn to online sources and record offices.

Never assume you have the right person! Just found that the research I'd done for Harry Waymouth (b.1888) was based on the wrong census records.
Finally found the right one... listed as H Weymouth (b. 1887)
