The children each chose an animal to draw/paint and then they were each given some air dry clay to create their animal.
So much concentration and amazing art created 🎨

Today we looked at butterflies in more detail 🦋
We talked about the different types, how to recognise their markings and which ones we think we may have seen.
The children designed their own big butterflies 🦋 which they really enjoyed 🌿

We spent the whole day outside today and it was glorious ☀️☀️🌿
Our new mud kitchen got lots of use as they decided to make a banquet for a Queen 👸
They even made her a throne.

One of the most wonderful things about home educating is that we have such a mix of ages that all play and interact together.
It really doesn’t mean anything to the children, they all include one another and the older ones always look out for the younger ones, it’s so lovely to watch ❤️

We started our day with some nature poems 🌿
We did our own art work incorporating butterflies in our theme 🦋

The children loved playing in our new mud kitchen making lots of beautiful soups 🌿🌺

Protests 🪧
24th June, this is so important!
Early years is totally underfunded.
It’s also a huge risk to education & childcare due to an increase in ratios, something has to change.

Nesting Birds 🐦

I have been really looking to this weeks topic!
My girls are especially interested in birds.
They love watching them in the garden, telling me what type of bird they think it is.
So I knew this would be a fun week.

We started our day with a trip to the local woods to look out for signs of nest building and to see what birds we could spot.
We talked about the most common birds we see in our garden and what they look like.
The children loved seeing what materials they could find and each chose a place to build their nests.

This afternoon I set up a craft for them to make their own little birds to sit in a nest along with some little eggs.
They then decided to head out in the garden to make more nests and add some little eggs to it.

Tomorrow we will continue our “Nesting birds” topic and explore more about birds with lots more fun hands on activities to go alongside 🐦🐦

Shrove Tuesday ~ Pancake day 🥞

The children have been so excited for today!
They each got to choose a topping for their pancake.
I don’t think my house has ever been so quiet while everyone tucked in to their yummy pancakes.

They each created a pancake face too 😊🥞

The Lunar New Year ✨✨

Also known as the Chinese New Year.

Today marks the end of the year of the Ox and the start of the year of the Tiger 🐯

We made our own Tiger masks today while we talked about how over 2 billion people worldwide would be celebrating today.

I had Tigers roaming around the garden all afternoon.

It was lovely to spend so much time outside today without feeling too cold.
I asked the children to take their notebooks outside and to draw something they could see that made them smile 😊
Sometimes it’s nice to just stop and take in what’s around us, listen to the birds, appreciate the sun shining down on us and notice the clouds in the Sky.
