Should we shop responsibly? Absolutely. But the problem of plastic pollution is so bad that we can no longer solve it on the consumer level. We need to tackle the root problem and stop plastic pollution at the source.

PLASTICS RESEARCH: Microplastics found in the ice and snow across the world, from the Arctic to the Alps ❄️.
A recent study by the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research has found microplastics – small plastic particles and fibres – in snowfall at worryingly high levels. The highest quantities were found in European snows, at an average of 24,600 particles per litre, but even in the remotest locations in Greenland and Svalbard had large numbers.
How does it get there?
Most microplastics are probably travelling in the air, blown by the winds 💨, as well as through ocean currents 🌊. Microplastics have now been found in the mountains, ice caps, air, ocean trenches, soil and in our food and drink.
Our plastic habits, seemingly innocent, have created a global invasion of invisible plastic particles. Even though you can’t see it, there is probably plastic in the air around you, right now.
At the moment we don’t know much about the effects of microplastics on human health, but studies have shown that we are breathing it, drinking it and eating it.
It’s scary stuff, but shows the desperate need to accelerate research on all fronts – whether that be the effects on the environment and humans or ways to reduce our reliance on plastics.
