🌑☀️ A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE — more than just something in the sky ☀️🌑

Unsurprisingly, we’ve been talking about total solar eclipses, and it has been wonderful to see just how fascinated the children have been! ✨ Their questions, ideas and sense of wonder showed how naturally children are drawn to things they don’t fully understand yet. 🌍🌙

During this extraordinary total solar eclipse, when the Moon moved between the Earth and the Sun, and the daytime sky became darker, it created a truly extraordinary moment in nature. 🌙☀️

But perhaps an eclipse can offer us more than a science lesson…

🔍 Curiosity & wonder — children remind us that there is joy in asking “why?”, “how?” and “what if?” We don’t always need an immediate answer; sometimes wondering is where learning begins.

🌑 Things aren’t always as they seem — the Sun hasn’t disappeared when we can’t see it. It is simply hidden from our view. A lovely reminder that not seeing something doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

🌅 Darkness is temporary — The eclipse passes and the light returns. This can become a gentle metaphor for change: difficult or unfamiliar moments don’t last forever.

🌓 Change can be both strange and beautiful — An eclipse briefly changes something as familiar as daytime. It reminds us that the world can surprise us, and that unfamiliar experiences can inspire awe rather than fear.

🌱 A moment to pause and notice — in a busy world, an eclipse encourages us to stop, look up and appreciate something bigger than ourselves.

💭 And perhaps the deepest lesson is simply this:

🌞 sometimes we don’t need to have all the answers
🌞 sometimes it is enough to be curious, to wonder, and to look at the world with fresh eyes. ✨

The children’s fascination with the eclipse has been a beautiful reminder that wonder is where so much learning begins. 💛🌍🌙

🌱 EXPLORING EMOTIONS IN NATURE

It’s a wonderful feeling to explore emotions with children out in nature, especially during our forest school and in the garden! ☀️🌼

Using emotion doughnuts 🍩 helps babies begin to recognise facial expressions and understand different feelings from such a young age, creating a meaningful and engaging learning experience.

❤️ PSED – building the foundations

PSED (Personal, Social & Emotional Development) is a key prime area of the EYFS and plays a vital role in holistic development.

Through these early experiences, babies begin to develop:

Ever wondered what happens after you wave goodbye? 👋💚 Here’s a little peek into a typical day filled with laughter, learning and lots of magical moments…

☀️ Good Morning!
Our day begins with warm welcomes, cuddles (if needed!), and cheerful “¡Buenos días!” from our wonderful full-time qualified Spanish teacher. 🇪🇸 Before you know it, little voices are confidently joining in with greetings, colours, numbers and everyday words—all through fun, natural conversations woven into the day.

🥣 Breakfast & Big Conversations
Tiny tummies are fuelled with healthy food while even bigger imaginations are fuelled with stories! One child is planning to become an astronaut 🚀, another insists their cat can drive a tractor… and honestly, we’re here for it! 😂

🧘 Morning Yoga & Mindful Moments
We gently stretch, breathe and begin our day with simple yoga poses and calming meditation. 🧘‍♀️💛 These moments help our little learners build emotional regulation, focus and self-awareness—learning how to recognise feelings and find their calm in a busy world.

🌳 Forest School Adventures
Boots on… let’s go! 🍂 We climb, balance, build dens, hunt for mini beasts, splash in muddy puddles (the best kind!), and discover nature using all our senses. Forest School helps us develop resilience, confidence, teamwork and a love for the great outdoors—all while having the time of our lives! 🐞🌿

🌱 Eco-Friendly Explorers & Learning About Our World
As an eco-friendly nursery, we also learn how to care for our planet every single day 💚. We recycle, reuse and reduce, compost our food scraps, and learn why turning off taps and saving energy matters. Little hands help plant seeds, care for our garden, and discover how plants, insects and animals all work together to keep our world beautiful 🌍🌼. We’re not just learning about nature—we’re learning how to protect it for the future!

🤸 Gymnastics & Movement Fun
Time to stretch, balance and move! 🤸‍♀️ We develop strength, coordination and confidence through fun gymnastics sessions—rolling, jumping, balancing, climbing soft play equipment and learning how amazing our bodies are. Every wobble, tumble and triumph is celebrated with big smiles and even bigger cheers! 🎉

🎨 Learning Through Play
From messy masterpieces and sensory exploration to construction challenges, science experiments and imaginative role play, every activity has a purpose. We aren’t “just playing”—we’re developing language, early maths, problem-solving, creativity, fine motor skills and confidence without even realising it. 🧠✨

🇪🇸 Spanish Throughout the Day
Whether we’re counting toys, singing songs, naming animals or chatting during lunch, Spanish naturally becomes part of everyday life. Before long, our little learners are surprising their families with new words and phrases at home! 🎶🐻

🍎 Snack Time
Healthy snacks, independence and plenty of encouragement… although we’re still investigating how cucumber occasionally ends up under the table and why some fruit seem to have a life of their own! 🤭

📚 Stories, Songs & Dancing
Books take us on adventures, music gets little feet moving, and every child has the chance to find their voice, build confidence and express themselves. Yes… the same song might be requested twelve times. Yes… we’ll probably sing it twelve times! 🎵💃

😴 Time to Recharge
Some children enjoy a cosy nap, while others relax with quieter activities before heading off for more afternoon discoveries.

🌈 Afternoon Explorations
More outdoor play, exciting activities, friendships, laughter and those precious “Look what I did!” moments. Every challenge overcome, every tower built, every shared toy and every new word spoken is another step in your child’s incredible journey. ❤️
