g. I have taught students from a wide breadth of backgrounds – from hard working artistic students who struggle with the rigid concept of the sciences, to disengaged students who do not wish to partake in formal education. Building relationships with every student is vital to unlocking their strengths and empowering them to achieve academic and personal success. I use my Psychology degree to embed the principles of learning and behaviour into each of my tutoring sessions. Students therefore improve their retention of knowledge and become adept at applying it within exam conditions. As a part-time practicing school teacher this ensures I am up to date on the latest exam board requirements, approaches to learning and safeguarding. Please do get in touch for an initial conversation to see if I am the right fit for your family.

I am immensely proud of the GCSE tutees who have completed their year 11 exams!

Each teenager has shown their incredible resilience, determination and eagerness with their learning and it's been a privilege to facilitate.

I am very sad to say goodbye to these wonderful families I've got to know so well, but I'm equally excited for updates on their next chapter!

Very quiet social media presence lately due to the vastly increased GCSE intake this winter!

We've all been working hard with bespoke revision timetables (and they've been learning how to adapt when life gets in the way), focusing on key areas needing to improve (from exam technique to specific topics) and practice, practice practice while finding genuine interest and joy in learning about science πŸ”

Bookings for year 10 and KS3 students from June onwards are open if you'd like to enquire!

100 school days until the first written GCSE exams!

At the moment the focus is on revising 'paper 2' science content and finding areas of weakness for students. We've worked hard together to identify the most efficient and effective ways of revising for each individual (some being exam questions, others mind maps and flash cards, others quiz style questions etc) and so I'm confident all are in a really strong position to build forwards the spring mocks!

Every Thursday is Neuroverse, and today consisted of:

- Reminding ourselves of particle theory
- What is dissolving?
- How to separate mud and water
- Minecraft themed mini golf by YuGo: Exercise Engagement Pioneers
- Minecraft themed story board
- Chromatography art and learning which colours are in our favourite pens

With such a high level of neurodiversity the aim is always for adaptive teaching, inclusion, building a community and inspiring creative minds πŸ™πŸΌ

"Wow, that's actually pretty easy" πŸ‘€ I may have my biggest accolade from teaching by making electrolysis - renowned for being so difficult - 'easy'!!

N*** is such a creative person and I knew making electrolysis kinesthetic was the best way for her to see how the process works, and then apply it to new settings.

1:1 working is such a powerful way to learn, it's tasks like this which are simply not possible in the classroom.

Wishing N*** the best of luck in her upcoming mock exams 🀞🏼🀞🏼

Y11 mock exams are fast approaching!

It's a time for recall practice, developing revision techniques and exam question practice.

Each person is different with how they learn, and my GCSE students are all so different to each other. Part of the joy of tutoring comes from developing learning and revision techniques to suit each individual.

Pre mock GCSE revision sessions available during half-term!

1:1 or group lessons which focus directly on revision techniques for any subject, or subject specific content revision for the science curriculum.

A one off 'booster' can make a huge difference to confidence, skills and ultimately their grades.

Message me if you'd like to discuss if I am the right person for your family.

Below are some lovely comments from my year 11 students this results day.

K**** is studying for foundation tier combined science and her goal is completing vocational courses at college next year. She needs a grade 4 or above and has been struggling to achieve this.

My approach:
βœ”οΈ Start with basics for biology and physics
βœ”οΈ Repeatedly teaching and checking key knowledge
βœ”οΈ Breaking information into small manageable chunks
βœ”οΈ Practicing equations and focusing on units, conversions and rearranging

Within 4 weeks we've completed a physics unit and she's showing remarkable progress. Her dedication has been so high that her phone wallpaper was a list of how energy transfers!

Next lesson we will work through some exam questions to ensure she can demonstrate her new knowledge in this format, before starting on biology unit 2.

Leading education at a new initiative which is delivering Science and English learning for Home Educated neurodivergent children in Stroud.

We explored:
- how matter is made of particles
- what we thought this might look like
- particle theory
- making hot and cold tea to see how particles move
- how the particles in an ice lolly move more when it begins to melt (helped with lots of wiggling around and acting it all out!)

I encouraged their creative skills and they made a story where dragons were eating ice lollies, but of course their fire melted them! They became very sticky and when they were asleep froze into stalagmites!

Here we are creating a comic strip to bring the story to life...

"I had more chemistry lessons last week and I'm really starting to enjoy it now I understand it!" - a glowing comment from a student today who is having lessons this term to boost their understanding and confidence. Often it just needs a small number of 1:1 sessions to make a massive difference!

A confidence boosting first tutoring lesson with J**** this week!

Having begun GCSE Chemistry in the last school year, she scored 20% in her end of unit test. As a natural mathematician and a lover of languages I helped her see the patterns in the atomic structure and encouraged her confidence with balancing equations - by the end of the hour she was beaming with confidence and satisfaction!

Curriculum content covered:
βœ”οΈ Elements and compounds
βœ”οΈ Atomic structure, including mass and charges
βœ”οΈ Periodic Table
βœ”οΈ Chemical formula
βœ”οΈ Balancing chemical equations

The involvement of tutoring at this stage is so important because the rest of the course really builds on the first topics. It is common in science for students to not understand the abstract concepts of chemistry, all J**** will need is a different approach to the explanations and plenty of recall practice to succeed her goals.
