Even as we come to the end of the year, the concept of starting in a new near group can be daunting. Especially when you’re already finding learning tricky 🧮 📖 maybe end of year assessments have highlighted gaps in learning? Or maybe you’ve noticed they just don’t engage as well as as they used to.

Very bittersweet moment today when I had my last session with one of my year 6s. She was my first ever student when I first started tutoring last academic year and we always have such a giggle 🤭

Watching her grow in confidence has been amazing and I’m so sad to see her finish tuition as we get to SATs. She’s absolutely smashed year 6 and I appreciate the lovely gifts. So thoughtful and kind  🥰

Nothing beats the feeling of watching a student grow in confidence and enjoy learning 🥰❤️

Does your child struggle with times tables?

Lots of schools push Times Table Rockstars, which is great and I do love it, don’t get me wrong! But it’s difficult to play that game (and others like it) if you’re struggling to remember any of your times tables.

Start with something simple. Draw some arrays, spend time working them out together and get it written down. Then answer some questions or play games with the answers available. They aren’t recalling from memory yet but it will help them stick in their minds. It helps relieve the pressure and start to remember them bit by bit.

Spent a few days in Majorca last week, hence the radio silence!

But this is what tutoring is about to me! Nobody is incapable but a lot of us feel like we are. I’m often met with “that’s too difficult” or “I can’t do that” but this is what I’m determined to change. The confidence. Helping children realise that they CAN do new things and watching that hate of a subject turn to love 🥰
