βοΈπ There's something special about eating outdoors... πΏ
Over the past few weeks, we've been making the most of the beautiful weather by enjoying many of our lunchtimes outsideβboth in our nursery garden and while exploring our local community. What might look like a simple picnic is actually packed with meaningful learning opportunities.
Research and national guidance, including Realising the Ambition, recognise that everyday experiences such as mealtimes provide rich opportunities for learning, wellbeing and developing independence. By taking our lunches outdoors, we are extending these experiences even further.
πΏ Supporting health and wellbeing β Fresh air, sunshine and nature help children feel calm, relaxed and emotionally secure, creating enjoyable, unhurried mealtimes.
π½οΈ Developing independence β Children build confidence as they carry their lunch, make choices, pour drinks, manage their belongings and help care for their environment.
π¬ Building communication and relationships β Sharing lunch together encourages conversations, turn-taking, problem-solving and a strong sense of belonging within the group.
π Learning beyond the nursery gates β Eating in different environments helps children become confident, responsible members of their community while developing respect for the world around them.
π₯ Creating positive relationships with food β Outdoor mealtimes are fun, relaxed and sociable, helping children enjoy food, explore new tastes and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
At Babes in the Wood, we know that learning doesn't stop at the nursery door. Every moment of the dayβincluding lunchtimeβis an opportunity to nurture curious minds, independent learners and happy, healthy children.
Because sometimes the simplest moments create the biggest memories... especially when they're shared in the sunshine. βοΈπ
