🇬🇧 What changed and when for students and grads under HC 1333 📚

HPI route changes begin, including a wider eligible institutions list and an annual cap.
11 Nov 2025: Student maintenance funds increase to £1,529 per month in London and £1,171 per month outside London, counted up to nine months.
25 Nov 2025: Switching from Student to Innovator Founder clarified for graduates who completed their course, self-employment allowed at the point of switch.

8 Jan 2026: English level B2 required for initial Skilled Worker, HPI and Scale-up.

1 Jan 2027: Graduate route becomes 18 months for Bachelor’s and Master’s applications made on or after this date, PhD stays three years.

Why it matters 🎯
Your submission date decides which rulebook applies. Recalculate funds if you submit on or after 11 Nov. Plan any Innovator Founder switch from 25 Nov. Note the B2 English bar from 8 Jan. Time Graduate route applications before or after 1 Jan 2027 depending on your plan.

Action checklist ✅
Check your route on GOV.UK before paying.
Prepare correct maintenance evidence if applying after the funds change.
Confirm your English test meets B2 for relevant work routes.
Plan post-study steps with the 2027 change in mind.

🇩🇪 What’s new:
TUM has posted updated Waiver Scholarship 2025 guidelines for international students who are liable for tuition fees. The waiver covers degree-program tuition only (no cash payout; semester fees not covered). Two tracks: Merit-based and Need-based.

Who it’s for:
Non-EEA students subject to TUM tuition. Merit targets top applicants/students (e.g., ranking evidence for new Master’s; top performance for current students). Need supports those who would otherwise be unable to start/continue for financial reasons. You may apply to both, but awards cannot be combined; the first approved applies.

Application windows (from guidelines / page):
• Merit — newly enrolled (Master’s): Jan 1–May 31 for the following winter; Nov 1–Jan 15 for the following summer.
• Merit — current students (BA/MA): May 31–Jun 30 (winter); Nov 30–Dec 31 (summer).
• Need-based: Bachelor’s: May 15–Jul 15 (winter). Master’s: Jan 1–May 31 (winter) and Nov 1–Jan 15 (summer).

Award period:
Merit = two semesters after the application period. Need-based = remaining standard duration (conditions apply). Takes effect only upon enrollment in a fee-liable TUM program. Combining with other scholarships is generally possible if their rules allow it.

🇵🇹 What’s new (effective immediately):
Portugal has officially abolished the Work-Seeker Visa and replaced it with the Skilled Worker Visa targeting highly qualified professionals. Work-Seeker Visa, which previously allowed individuals to enter and search for work, is now discontinued. The Skilled Worker Visa requires applicants to have a formal job offer before entering Portugal. This change aligns with Portugal’s focus on attracting talent in high-demand sectors. 💼

Key sectors targeted
• IT, Healthcare, Engineering, and more. 📈

Why it matters:
This shift moves away from an open-entry visa and focuses on qualified talent in key sectors, providing a clearer path for professionals seeking to work in Portugal. 🌍

📝 How to apply:

1. Secure a job offer from a Portuguese company in one of the key sectors.

2. Apply for the Skilled Worker Visa via official government channels.

3. Submit the necessary documents, including employment contract and proof of qualifications. ✍️
