Some of our Year 12 students, accompanied by members of staff, were privileged to attend the Gaudete Trust Sixth Form Retreat Day at the St Columban's site in Solihull last week.
Joining students from schools across the Gaudete Trust, including three fellow Edmund Rice schools, we spent the day reflecting on Pope Francis' message in Laudato Si' and our shared responsibility to care for our common home. Through inspiring talks, meaningful discussions and opportunities for prayer and reflection, we explored how our faith calls us to be stewards of creation and advocates for environmental justice.
The speakers and retreat team challenged us to recognise the beauty of God's creation, to reflect on the impact of our own choices, and to continue raising awareness of the importance of caring for our shared world. We were reminded that God can be found "in every place, in every heart," and that each of us has a role to play in protecting the gift of creation for future generations.
We also had the opportunity to experience pond dipping, observing the rich biodiversity of the site and learning about the importance of protecting vulnerable species, including the endangered great crested newts that call the area home.
Thank you to the Gaudete Trust, St Columban's, the retreat leaders and everyone who made the day such a thought-provoking and faith-filled experience. We look forward to putting what we have learned into action within our own school community.
"The world is a gift which we have freely received and must share with others." — Pope Francis, Laudato Si'
