A day full of adventures for Acorns old and new!

Yesterday, we had the great pleasure of welcoming our new children into school for lunch with their grown ups, which was kindly hosted by our Stockcross PTFA and some current Acorn parents.

It was so lovely to see the children exploring our Early Years space, to have the chance to meet the new families that will be joining us and to see the next generation of some of our existing families.

Our current Acorns then went off to explore the local Sutton Estate woodlands, with an expert from Wessex Woodland, showing just how ready they are for their next chapter! It was hard to believe that this time last year they were only just beginning their journey with Mrs Collis, and now they are getting ready to move up to Taproot class in just a few weeks time!

We are so proud of all our Acorns old and new, and can't wait to see what new adventures await them.

Sports day might have been postponed this morning for the 'not so great' British weather but it certainly didn't dampen our spirits today...

'Wilson's Workout' meant that energy was still burnt in the form of a musical circuit class and then we were treated to music of a different nature with a wonderfully interactive performance by https://www.newburyspringfestival.org.uk/ who were able to bring live music to us in the form of a lute, a cello and some recorders!

The children all really enjoyed experiencing something so different to listen to, and then Taproot class shared their thoughts on the performance in the form of a brainstorming session at the end of the day. Highlights included 'that was wonderful' and 'it was so heart warming and encouraging' which were so lovely to hear.

Thank you Mr Wilson and Newbury Spring Festival for putting the spring back in our steps today!

We were very excited to welcome 'Marv' to our school last week and were so pleased to be chosen by Newbury Racecourse to help launch their Schools' Celebration day, a wonderful initiative to help local families experience a day at the races.

'Marv' was the perfect guest and would be welcome to come and visit anytime! Thank you Greatwood for bringing him to see us.

We hope you enjoy this video starring Marv, our wonderful children and our very own Mrs Paine, who wins the academy award for 'Best Oak Class Teacher 2026'.

Primary School Allocation Day today sees us proudly offer 15 places to our future Acorn Class of September 2026.

We are excited to see what the future holds for them and look forward to welcoming both the children and some new families to our Stockcross School Community.

We will be in touch soon with details of how we will work together to make the transition to Primary School as easy as possible.

Meanwhile, we still welcome other families who might be looking at 'In Year transfers' to come and visit us to see what we could offer your family, or anyone who might like to be placed on a waiting list for a potential Year R place for September, as sometimes circumstances do change. Our lovely sister school at Welford & Wickham CE Primary School might be able to help too.

There's plenty to smile about being a part of The Kite Primary Federation family!

Thank you to Miss Tabby from MF Dance for providing all the children a dance workshop to celebrate Red Nose Day last week.

The children loved their sessions and it was so nice to hear what a positive message Miss Tabby shared with them all. She talked about about the benefits of persevering, and practising when life gives them challenges, linking with two of our school values so brilliantly, and how important it is to respect each others choices (not everyone has to be a K Pop fan, and that's ok! ) and to love yourself at all times.

Thank you Miss Tabby, it was a brilliant day full of smiles all round!

Ending a busy half term at school with Balance Bikeability for Acorn and Taproot class and a Science Workship for Oak class.

Thanks to West Berkshire Council for providing the Bikeability training, for our youngest, and The Abingdon Science Partnership at Abingdon School for providing a super workshop on Forces and Space, for our oldest! Thank you also to Stockcross PTFA for helping to fund the trips to Abingdon.

Sapling Class are looking to their upcoming March workshop @ Abingdon School on Rocks and Soils.

Taproot class took their learning outdoors, this week, and took advantage of the nature on our doorstep by discovering what is beautiful all around us.

Without as many obvious beautiful flowers to spot at this time of year, they enjoyed exploring to look for beauty in more unusual places...

Getting back into a normal routine is normally 'snow' joke at the start of term, but it was made slightly easier today with some winter fun at breaktime!

We are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the Spring term has in store for us, with hopefully the start of longer days and warmer temperatures.

We have got our last open morning next week, on Tuesday 13th January, before the Primary Schools Admissions deadline. If you would like to register your attendance then please email the school office by Monday 12th January.

We would love to show you around! There's 'snow' better time to find out how we can welcome your family into our school community.

As the winter weather is now firmly upon us, we thought it was a great time for the children to have a talk from Tom and Tracy from Better Health and Fitness, in Newbury, about how to stay safe around water in the Winter months.

Thank you, Tom and Tracy, for providing such an interactive presentation. Hopefully now the children are going to be much more aware of what to do around open waters this season.
