Meet Andy Batey, a dedicated volunteer whose passion for inspiring young people through STEM has made a lasting impact across the FIRST® LEGO® League community.

For the past eight years, Andy has been involved with FIRST® LEGO® League, taking on almost every volunteer role across more than 30 events. Most often found refereeing, he combines his enthusiasm for technology with a commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers, innovators and problem-solvers.

"I have been involved with FIRST® LEGO® League for 8 years and have filled all roles across over 30 events, although I am mostly to be found refereeing.
As a Computer Officer at the University of Cambridge, I enjoy using my technology skills to inspire the next generation when I volunteer as a STEM Ambassador.
I think FIRST® LEGO® League is an ideal way to give something back, although I get as much as I put in; it has definitely been beneficial to my wellbeing.
There is nothing better than seeing the enthusiasm of the young people when the robot that they built and coded achieves what they wanted it to.
It gives me great pleasure to meet (now not so) young people a few years after I saw them at FIRST® LEGO® League and they say that was when their passion for Engineering and Technology started."

Congratulations to Lord of the Bricks team on an outstanding achievement at the FIRST® LEGO® League International Open Championship in South Korea.

Representing the UK on the global stage, this talented team of young engineers secured an incredible 2nd place worldwide in the Robot Performance Award.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the dedication behind it. Over the course of the season, the team invested nearly 800 hours in robot design, programming, testing, and refining their innovation project, demonstrating exceptional commitment, teamwork, and technical excellence.

Alongside their success in competition, the team also delivered a real-world impact through their Innovation Project, developing the UK's first live public-use AI research assistant for the The Kent Archaeological Society, helping make archaeological research more accessible to the public.

Dr. Loge, Head Coach of Lord of the Bricks, said:

''Standing on an international podium against the world's elite teams is a massive milestone, but the most exciting part of this achievement is what it means for these children's futures. Over this intense nine month journey, they haven't just won a trophy; they have unlocked a blueprint for elite success that will stay with them for the rest of their lives''

Meet Amber Goodall, a passionate STEM advocate who has spent the last 13 years inspiring young people and giving back to the community that helped shape her own journey.

Starting out as a competitor at just seven years old, Amber has gone on to take on a wide range of roles, from team member and medal photographer to dedicated mentor, supporting and encouraging the next generation of innovators.

''I got involved as a competitor at the age of 7 years old and over the last 13 years I have taken on many roles, including team member, medal photography and team mentor.

During this season, I have volunteered as a mentor to 13 primary and secondary school teams and the impact I have seen the competition have on them and their future is unlike any other.

FIRST® LEGO® League has encouraged me to explore STEM subjects throughout my education which has led me to be currently studying a BSc Combined STEM degree at The Open University.

Seeing my teams develop each season has become a key part of my life and experiencing regional and national competitions alongside them has allowed me to have the opportunity to inspire and impact more young people in STEM."

From competitor to mentor, Amber's journey demonstrates the power of dedication, leadership and a passion for helping others succeed. Through her work with young people and her own STEM studies, she continues to inspire future generations to build confidence, develop new skills and pursue their ambitions!

Huge congratulations to End_Tec from Endon High School, who have made history by becoming the first UK team to receive the International Engineering Excellence Award at a FIRST® LEGO® League International Open in Jeonju, South Korea!

After winning their regional competition and the UK National Final, the team earned the opportunity to represent the UK on the international stage. They went on to compete against 45 of the world's best FIRST® LEGO® League teams, showcasing their engineering research, technological innovation and advanced robotics programming.

Their achievement is the result of months of hard work, fundraising, problem-solving and perseverance, all while balancing school studies and competition preparation.

As Shaun Mitchell, Associate Assistant Headteacher and Design & Technology Lead at Endon High School, said:
"This has never just been about robotics. It has been about achieving something extraordinary together, not only as teammates, but as genuine friends."

And in reflecting on the international experience, he added:
"It wasn't just about competing; it was about connecting. They built friendships with young people from across the globe, united by one shared passion for engineering and innovation."

Hannah Rees, Senior Education Operations Manager at The IET, said:
"Following End_Tec's journey has been inspiring from start to finish. This remarkable team worked tirelessly to raise the funds needed for their trip, balanced their preparation with their school studies, and dedicated countless hours to developing their engineering, programming and teamwork skills."

"End_Tec's achievement demonstrates not only exceptional technical ability but also the collaboration, creativity and resilience that define the next generation of engineering talent."

Following an amazing weekend at the FIRST® LEGO® League UK Final, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making it such a special experience. From the incredible FLL, events and AV teams, to our brilliant volunteers, sponsors and supporters, this simply wouldn’t happen without you.

Your energy, care and behind‑the‑scenes effort created an unforgettable weekend for the teams, schools and families involved. We’re so grateful for everything you do to support young people, creativity and teamwork. Thank you for being part of it.

A big congratulations to Staffordshire's End_Tec, our 2026 FIRST® LEGO® League Champions! 🏆

After months of dedication, problem‑solving and giving up free time to chase a shared goal, End_Tec from Endon High School were crowned Champions at the FIRST® LEGO® League National Final in Harrogate on Saturday.

Their teacher and coach, Shaun Mitchell, said:

“This journey has been absolutely incredible. The team has worked tirelessly, night after night and every lunchtime, and seeing all that commitment payoff is just amazing. I’m so proud of them.”

A truly special moment for the team, their school, and everyone who’s supported them along the way 💙
