Last week marked a huge milestone for FYI as we delivered our first ever educational residential trip, taking seven young people to Krakow, Poland, supported on a 1:1 basis by our team.
For many, this was their first time travelling without a caregiver, navigating a busy airport, experiencing a new culture and braving temperatures of -9°C (which felt like -16!). They showed incredible resilience during our time spent in Poland.
The trip was an extension of their English learning, bringing The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas book which they’ve been reading with their tutors to life through a guided visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, alongside time exploring the city and experiencing local culture (including sampling some mocktails).
This opportunity was earned by young people who have been working hard, engaging positively with their programmes and staying committed to their timetables as they prepare to sit their Functional Skills English and Maths next month.
We are incredibly proud of how they approached what was a powerful and emotional experience. Opportunities like this help build confidence, broaden horizons and bring learning to life. We’re really looking forward to creating more experiences like this for our young people in the future.
