Hello all!

We are looking for some members of our community to support our school in improving the look and feel of our school by volunteering to help us paint fences, benches and to help us create some new spaces for our children.

If you would like to support us, please enter via the main playground gate (Hardy Park side) at 10am on Tuesday 25th August.

If you've got some paintbrushes, external furniture paint, an electric screwdriver or other useful tools - please bring them along.

Autism Post-Diagnosis Support Sessions

Has your child recently received an autism diagnosis? The Specialist Health Visiting Team is running free monthly support sessions for parents and carers, offering advice, information and the opportunity to ask questions.

St Joseph's Primary School is exploring the possibility of establishing a new school-based nursery for children aged 0-4 years. The nursery would potentially operate throughout the year (52 weeks) and offer a range of childcare options to support local families.

We would welcome your views. Your responses will help us understand local demand and inform any future proposal.

Children across Thurrock are being invited to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which has launched in libraries across the borough this July. All children can sign up from Saturday 11 July and can start receiving their stickers from Monday 20 July.

Run by The Reading Agency and delivered through public libraries, the main annual challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to keep reading during the school holidays; helping to boost their confidence, skills and passion for books while school is out.

There is also a Mini Challenge for the under 4's, where families can share stories together and collect rewards along the way. Children who take part can earn their own stickers, certificate and a special gold sticker medal for completing the challenge.

This year’s theme, “Read to the Beat”, celebrates the connection between music and storytelling, inspiring children to discover the joy of reading through rhythm, creativity and self-expression.

The challenge is completely free and open to all children. Families can sign up at their local library, where children can set their own reading goals, choose books they enjoy, and collect rewards such as stickers, a medal and certificate for their achievements. If children read a seventh and eight book, they receive a limited edition "Reading Rocks" kit bag.

Research shows that reading for pleasure is a key indicator of a child’s development, yet only one in three children currently enjoy reading, and one in four leave primary school unable to read well. The Summer Reading Challenge helps tackle this by keeping children engaged with reading over the holidays and ready to return to school.

Last year alone, more than 575,000 children took part nationally, reading nearly 12 million books between them.

Thurrock Libraries will be supporting the challenge with a range of free activities and events throughout the summer, giving families opportunities to take part together and explore what their local library has to offer.

Dear families -

The weather over the course of the week is forecast to be hot. As a result, children can come into school in their Summer PE kit on each day.

Their PE kit comprises of their red PE t-shirt and a pair of navy shorts. Plain white or black trainers can be worn.

Children not wearing PE kit will be expected to come into school in their Summer school uniform.

Please ensure children also bring a sunhat to school and a bottle of fresh water. Sun cream must be applied at home before school starts.

Please join us for fun, stalls and some soakings.

Essex Mental Health Support Team are hosting a series of free webinars to support parents whose children are neurodivergent, may have emotional based school avoidance, struggle with fears and worries, or who have sensory needs.

All webinars are in July so please make use of these free resources.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be hot days.

As a result children are encouraged to come to school in their PE kits. Children must also bring in a sun hat and at least one bottle of still, fresh water.

Sun cream must be applied at home before school.

School staff will increase water breaks, use shared areas for learning and make use of air conditioning where available.
