Where do your best ideas find room to come alive?
The weather has turned noticeably cooler over the past few days, and as summer begins to ebb towards autumn, our thoughts naturally turn to the months ahead.
The view from the desk in our Reading Room remains a favourite spot from which to watch the seasons change: a peaceful corner overlooking the front lawn, with space to think, reflect and work without distraction.
Whether you are writing a book, preparing a talk, developing a project or simply need some quiet time to gather your thoughts, Shallowford offers the stillness and space that can be so difficult to find elsewhere.
Perhaps your next chapter could begin here.

As well as being a retreat house and training centre, Shallowford House welcomes private self-catered groups regularly throughout the year.
Whether you are planning a family gathering, a church weekend, a community event or simply time away together, Shallowford offers a peaceful and welcoming setting, with comfortable accommodation and nine acres of beautiful grounds to enjoy.
Every private group stay also supports the long-term sustainability of this place - helping us care for the House and Grounds, invest in our facilities, and continue our wider ministry as a place of rest, reflection and renewal.

Although we are now at the end of the month, June’s Devotion is still available to read on our website.
This month’s reflection takes us into the beauty of “Flaming June”, the fullness of creation, and the image of Christ as “the door”, the one through whom we find life in all its fullness.

🥰We are hugely grateful to the volunteers who give their time, energy and skill to help with everything from planting and clearing to fencing, maintenance and caring for the wider work of Shallowford. Their dedication makes a real and visible difference to the life of this place.
Looking ahead to our upcoming Garden Working Party Residential, volunteers will gather to help with practical work around the grounds, enjoy time together, and contribute to the ongoing care of the estate.

🏅Celebrating the Chad Foundations Course graduates.
Shallowford House was delighted to host this year’s graduates of the Chad Foundations Course; the biggest cohort yet.
Certificates of completion were presented by Bishop Michael, marking the end of a year of study, reflection and exploration into lay and ordained Christian service.
🙏 As members of this cohort continue to discern their next steps, whether in local church service, Reader training, ordained ministry, or other forms of Christian vocation; we join with the Diocese of Lichfield in holding them in prayer before God.
May He bless, guide and strengthen each of them as they continue to listen for His call.

🕊️This month’s devotion is a little different, as Shallowford Director, Craig Newton, reflects on Jesus’ invitation in John 15 to “abide.”
In a world shaped by pressure, noise and constant movement, he explores how stillness, creation, prayer and rest can gently draw us back into the presence of God.
Written from the rhythms of life here at Shallowford House, Abide is an invitation to slow down enough to notice, and remain rooted in the life Christ offers.
