📚🐛 Sometimes the richest learning begins with simply reading a story… again and again and again! 🙈😂💛

Over the last couple of days, our play has been beautifully led by The Woolly Bear Caterpillar by Julia Donaldson.

A story that quickly captured imaginations and opened the door to so much more than we could ever have planned. 🐛✨

As we spent time together reading and revisiting the story, the children began to notice the little details, ask questions and share their own thoughts. They were particularly quick to recognise that not all of the caterpillars were kind, leading us into some truly beautiful conversations about kindness, feelings and the way we treat others. 💛

From there, the story came alive through our play…

🎨 Painting our own colourful caterpillars
👐 Creating caterpillars from playdough
🦋 Exploring moths and the fascinating world around them
💬 Talking, wondering, questioning and sharing our ideas together

There was no need to rush.

No need to move quickly on to the next activity.

Just time… time to notice, time to listen, time to wonder and time to let the children’s curiosity lead the way. ✨

Because sometimes the most special learning isn’t found in the activity we plan…

It is found in the moments woven between the pages of a story, the questions children ask and the conversations that follow. 📖💛🐛

Our Little Bug 🐞 Cones

All we did was set up an area to explore, a place to sit and chat our little ones did the rest with some beautiful and creative thinking! 🐞

We had bees, ladybirds and a giant flying spider so imaginations were also shining through!🐞
Little hands pushed leaves into cones, lavender and twigs. Then artwork appeared as thinking was extended. We do love collecting little gifts from nature.

🌿 The magic of simple play… 🌿

Yesterday we spent a beautiful day at Sandringham, meeting up with some of our wonderful families. ❤️

As I looked back through the photographs, I stopped at one little moment that made me smile…

Two little girls, a handful of sticks, some mud and a rather mysterious hole in the ground.

And what did they do?

They made mud porridge. 🥣🤎

No complicated resources.
No carefully prepared activity.
No instructions telling them what to make.

Just two little imaginations working together, exploring, chatting, creating and completely absorbed in their own little world.

And perhaps that is the beautiful thing about childhood…

Sometimes the simplest play creates the richest moments.

Because when we step back and allow children the freedom to explore what is right in front of them, they find their own ideas, their own language, their own stories and their own ways to play.

🌿 A stick becomes a spoon.
🤎 Mud becomes porridge.
🕳️ A hole becomes the beginning of an adventure.

Simple. Uncomplicated. Completely magical. ✨

And sometimes, those are the moments we remember most. ❤️

🌿 Simple play. Rich learning. 🌿

Sometimes the simplest invitations to play create the richest opportunities for learning. ❤️

A few pinecones, cardboard tubes, wool and some natural treasures became so much more than a little activity…

They became a place for hiding, finding, waiting, taking turns, copying actions and sharing ideas.

And alongside all of that came language.

Words became meaningful because they were happening in the play — “in”, “out”, “under”, “hide”, “found you!”, “my turn”, “again!”… little words becoming powerful when children can see, hear and experience them.

When children are truly absorbed, communication has a purpose. Vocabulary comes alive because it belongs to their experience, not simply something an adult has asked them to repeat.

And perhaps that is the magic of simple play.

We don’t always need expensive resources or elaborate activities.

Sometimes a handful of natural treasures, a little imagination and time to play together is enough.

Because fun can be free…
and the learning can be priceless. 🌿🤎

🌸 Spreading Her Wings 🌸

Three years ago, a little girl came through our door and quietly found a very special place in our hearts. 💕

We have watched you grow, discover, learn, giggle, create, care and become the beautiful little person you are today.

You are kind.
You are caring.
You are beautifully girly.
You have the biggest heart.
And you have brought so much love, laughter and joy into our little world. 🌸

There have been so many little moments over these three years — moments that may seem ordinary to the outside world, but which we will carry with us forever.

Today, those little hands that we have held so many times will begin to hold a new chapter.

And although my heart says “please don’t grow up just yet”… my head knows it is time.

Time to spread those beautiful wings. 🦋

Go gently, little one.
Be kind. Be brave. Be curious.
Keep that beautiful heart of yours.

And wherever life takes you next, never forget just how very loved you are.

We may have to let go of your hand today, but we will never let go of the memories you have left in our hearts. 💕🌸

🌻 From sunflower blooms to our next little harvest…

Our sunflower farm is entering an exciting new chapter! 🌱

We’re beginning to harvest our first phase of sunflowers, carefully hanging them to dry so we can collect the seeds and hopefully begin the cycle all over again. 🌻

The children have been fascinated by the changes — noticing how those bright, cheerful flowers have become heavy seed heads, looking closely, wondering what is happening inside and discovering that growing doesn’t simply stop when the petals fall.

And while we harvest, our second phase of sunflowers is rapidly growing! 🌱🌻

So there are seeds to save, plants to care for, changes to observe and lots of questions to explore.

From tiny seeds…
to towering sunflowers…
to harvesting…
and back to tiny seeds again. 🌻

A little mini farm, a whole lot of learning — and an exciting reminder that nature is always changing, growing and beginning again. 💚

Our sunflower story continues… 🌻✨

As children grow through primary school, they develop important emotional and social skills. They learn to understand others’ feelings, build friendships, manage emotions, and express their own opinions. With support and guidance, they can grow in confidence and resilience.
