🌟 EXTRA-CURRICULAR FAYRE

Today our Year 7 and Year 8 children had the chance to explore everything on offer at our Extra-Curricular Fayre during tutor time.

From sport and creativity to clubs, activities and new opportunities, there really is something for everyone. It was brilliant to see so many children finding out more, chatting to staff and discovering something new to get involved in. 🙌

Extra-curricular activities are a fantastic way to build confidence, develop new skills, make friends and become an even bigger part of Team Whitworth.

New for Year 11 ! 🌟

We're excited to launch a brand-new Trust-wide initiative offering FREE online Maths and English tutoring for Year 11 across the ALP family of schools.
This is an excellent opportunity for children to strengthen their knowledge, build confidence and prepare for their GCSE examinations with expert support from subject specialists.

YEAR 11 ENGLISH TASK A DAY: MOCK PREPARATION! ✍️📚

With Year 11 mock exams (English and Maths only) beginning week commencing 19th October, our English department has launched a "Task a Day" Challenge to help children prepare little and often.

The task sheet contains 10 focused activities covering both English Language and English Literature, designed to build confidence, strengthen exam skills and reinforce key knowledge. From analysing extracts and practising exam questions to revising characters, poetry and terminology, each task can be completed independently in a short amount of time.

✅ Small, manageable steps
✅ Builds confidence and exam readiness
✅ Encourages independent revision habits

We know that consistent effort over time makes a huge difference. By completing just one task each day, children can develop their knowledge, refine their exam technique and feel more prepared for their upcoming mocks.

What's Happening at Whitworth Park Academy This Week?

A busy and important week lies ahead for our children at Whitworth Park Academy!

✅ World Mental Health Day takes place on Friday 10th October, with children exploring this year's theme, "Lived experiences heard - real voices, real change." Throughout the week, we will be sharing resources and activities to encourage positive conversations around mental health and wellbeing.

✅ Safeguarding Focus
This week's student bulletin focuses on staying safe online. Children will learn about protecting their privacy, being responsible digital citizens, recognising online risks, and knowing where to seek help if they are worried about something online.

✅ Attendance Matters
Tutor groups will continue to focus on attendance, helping children understand their attendance figures, identify patterns and recognise the importance of attending school every day.

✅ Personal Development Assemblies
Children will take part in assemblies focused on Personal Development, helping them build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for success both in and beyond school.

✅ Extra-Curricular Opportunities
There are plenty of clubs taking place before and after school this week, from sports and arts to homework support and performance activities. Every club attended brings children one step closer to earning rewards through our attendance card initiative.

✅ Community Opportunities
Children can also access a range of activities through the local Spennymoor Youth Club, offering sports, creative activities and social opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.

As the evenings get darker and cosy reading weather arrives, it's the perfect time to pick up a new book! Our October Monthly Reads have been selected to inspire children to enjoy reading beyond the classroom and discover exciting new stories.

Whether reading a few pages each night, sharing a story with family, or getting lost in a favourite chapter at the weekend, every minute spent reading helps to build confidence, imagination and a lifelong love of books.

What an incredible experience for some of our lucky children!

As part of a reading reward opportunity, a group of our winners had the privilege of attending a talk with the fabulous Jacqueline Wilson, one of the UK's most beloved children's authors. The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing about her inspiration, writing journey and the stories behind some of her most famous books.

It was a truly memorable experience that celebrates the joy of reading and the opportunities that books can provide. Well done to all of the children who earned their place on the visit through their commitment to reading.
