We are delighted to announce that we, Norland CE School, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With a total of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to:
Mr. Brearley, Coach Jordan, Coach Benn & Coach James.

We look forward to applying once again in 2027!

Forest School!
Over the past few weeks in Forest School, Class C have been exploring the fascinating world of Ancient Greece! 🏛️🌿

We began by ordering timelines using cards, helping us understand the difference between AD and BC. The children then created their own maps of Ancient Greece using pebbles, adding water to represent the seas and even making small ‘boats’ to see if they would float.

We also learned about everyday life in Ancient Greece and had the opportunity to try a variety of Greek foods that people might have eaten in the past—an exciting and tasty experience!

Our learning continued as we explored Greek Gods, matching each god to their description, and discovering the importance of Greek temples. The children then worked creatively to build their own temples and discussed what offerings people might leave for the gods.

A fantastic few weeks of hands-on history, creativity, and outdoor learning! 🌱📚

Forest School!
Over the past few weeks in Forest School, Class B have been immersed in a range of exciting learning experiences! 🌿📚

We explored the story of Roz the Wild Robot and a poem about her decision to care for the egg, sparking thoughtful discussion and imagination.

We identified fronted adverbials and used adjectives to make comparisons. Our Year 4 pupils showed fantastic curiosity while linking their Science learning—exploring ice, water and steam—and even digging to find ice crystals.

Working scientifically, we investigated different soil types including sandy, clay and loam, testing their properties by rolling them into balls and seeing how they change.

We also ventured into the world of rainforests—imagining what a rainforest walk might feel like and creating our own mini rainforest models using natural materials.

A brilliant few weeks of hands-on learning, creativity and discovery outdoors! 🌧️🌱

Forest School!
Class A have been busy exploring Art through primary and secondary colours! 🎨 They worked together with friends to create colour wheels and painted their own sticks, showing great teamwork and creativity.

We also enjoyed time in the woodland, where the children painted the ‘house’ (crate), made natural paint brushes, and experimented with creating shapes using primary and secondary colours—just like Picasso in his cubist phase!

To finish, we explored drawing pencils, tested different types, and carefully sketched natural items found during forest school. A fantastic mix of creativity, collaboration, and outdoor learning! 🌿

🫀 Year 6 Science in action!

Our Year 6 pupils took part in a fascinating hands-on lesson, dissecting real animal hearts as part of their learning about the circulatory system. They were able to identify and explore key features such as the atria and ventricles, bringing their classroom learning to life.

The children showed great curiosity, maturity and enthusiasm throughout—what an incredible way to deepen their understanding of how the heart works!
