The children have enjoyed their first week back in Astronauts Class, settling in well and sharing lots of their summer stories while engaging enthusiastically in new activities. Reception Rockets have loved exploring the new mark-making tools and are developing their pencil control through play-based learning.

What a busy few week's the children have had with sports days, performances, beach trips and some children even found time to create a pond in the playground!

On Friday 26th June, Key Stage Two took part in an animation workshop. This was all about promoting our stop motion animation digital skills.

Jack demonstrated with his computer, camera, figures and background. He showed us how to take photos with the space bar, and we found out we needed to take 12 pictures for every second of film. We discovered we could change our backgrounds and toys. Hugo and Daniel chose Smurfs and Lexi and Lily went for a space theme. Lucy had the best time using the microphone to give her characters voices.

The children all made a short film and were given a memory stick to take home with their film on at the end of the session.

We would like to thank 'I made this' for visiting Southwold and giving us this opportunity today. Everyone agreed that they had had the BEST day!

In RE the children in Mercury have been reading and learning about morals in the bible. They have enjoyed hearing the stories of David and Goliath and Noah's Ark. The children have made bread as part of their learning for 'Jesus fed the 5000'. They weighed the ingredients and kneaded the dough. And were shocked at how much they had risen! Let's hope they taste as good as they look and they shared it!

On Sunday Mrs Last and Miss Garnett had the honour of attending the Southwold Civic Service. The event celebrates the service of the Mayor and Councillors to the community of Southwold as well as recognising the service of the many volunteers and induvials that give their time and effort to Southwold and it's community. A brass band led the procession through Southwold on to the church for prayers and hymns. An enjoyable time was had by all!

This week, the Astronauts have been busy exploring 2D and 3D shapes. The children enjoyed going on shape hunts both indoors and outdoors, spotting different shapes in their environment. They have also been drawing around shapes and using them to build their own creations. We have been encouraging the children to use shape vocabulary in their play, helping them to describe and talk about the shapes they are using with increasing confidence.

Mrs Brierley and Mrs Last were delighted to accompany our five pupils to the annual Sir John Leman Awards Evening, where each student received a medal and certificate in recognition of their outstanding contribution to life at our school. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the positive impact they have made within our school community. It was an added pleasure to celebrate a former pupil, who was also recognised with an award and is now continuing their journey in the school's sixth form.
