We were excited to be able to start our final Literacy Unit story ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ In our first plot point we have focused on smelling words to describe the exotic fruit Handa was taking to her friend Akeyo in a remote village in South West Kenya in Africa. We enjoyed smelling a variety of fruits which encouraged the children to share lots of great words to use in their sentences. We then had a very tasty fruit platter for our snack. 🍒🍓🍇🍎🍉🍑
What an amazing card. Our current Reception families have made us smile so much with this lovely surprise. Thank you. ❤️
What a gorgeous end to the day. Our new friends in Reception joined us for a teddy bears picnic. We bravely went on a bear hunt together as well as enjoying some yummy treats. Thank you so much for joining in. We had so much fun with you. We can’t wait to see you all in September! 🧸
Well done to our current Reception children. You all had a wonderful visit to your new Year One classrooms today and you all came back with very happy smiles. 😊
We really enjoyed having our new Reception friends who are starting in September visit us today. We loved meeting you and look forward to seeing you all at our teddy bears picnic tomorrow. Remember to bring your furry friend! 🧸
After exploring the story ‘On Sudden Hill’ by Linda Sarah the children were inspired to become imaginative and created some amazing adventure boxes. The classrooms were buzzing with excitement, ideas and plenty of creativity. Well done Reception we are glad your had some fabulous adventures in your boxes together. What great team work!
In maths today the Reception children had to work out how many dinosaurs were in the bucket after some had been found or had fallen out. The children were amazing at this activity.
What a busy week in Literacy we have had. We have begun to read ‘ On Sudden Hill’ by Linda Sarah and are loving the contraptions that the boys are making out of cardboard boxes.
We have developed some wonderful vocabulary with Grandma Fantastic and have begun to write our narratives.
We have also designed our own adventure boxes and cannot wait to develop our ideas next week
We really enjoyed meeting everyone tonight. Thank you so much for coming. 😊

Headteacher at OLOL on Twitter “SCHOOL NURSE Just a reminder that the School Nurse will be available for her drop in session tomorrow (Thursday 15th June) at 9am, if you need any help or advice. Thanks.”
We have really enjoyed exploring the curious tale ‘Sam and Dave Dig a Hole’ in our Literacy sessions. As Sam and Dave began to dig their hole so did we! During each session Grandma Fantastic brings a focus around words, language and vocabulary gathering , before the children develop their sentence construction for each plot point. Our children continue to impress us with their vocabulary and writing.
Reception have been intrepid mini beast explorers today leaving no stone unturned. There are a multitude of invertebrates living in our playground. Have you spotted any?
Well done to our superstar. 🌟
Headteacher at OLOL on Twitter “I've just had a visit from this wonderful young lady who blew me away with her reading and use of vocabulary. Very well done! ”
The children played a Doubles Dice Game. They took turns to roll the dice. If they rolled a double, they scored a point. We had lots of fun. 🎲🎲🙂
Master the Curriculum
After learning that Peter Pan had lost his shadow the children went outside to find theirs in the sunshine. They realised their body had blocked the light from the sun and as light travels in straight lines it could not bend around their body. They had great fun tracing each other’s shadows!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Neverland. We saved Tinkerbell from Captain Hook and celebrated with some pirate punch!
Today the children identified different London landmarks and then represented their favourite ones with blocks. Amazing teamwork and building. Can you guess the landmark? This afternoon they completed a circuit in P.E. Lots of busy and happy children!
Reception were the first year group to use the fantastic sports equipment donated by Dunelm Southport | Community Support Support in Southport. The children really enjoyed their activities while keeping fit in the fresh air. Thank you so much. Our children are very lucky.
In maths today we explored how the quantity of a group can be changed by adding more through first, then and now stories. We listened to the story Mr Gumpy’s Outing and then acted out our own maths story. Lots of fantastic counting and subitising!
Our next Literacy unit focuses on the story 'All Aboard the London Bus' by Patricia Toht. Today we have enjoyed exploring London on our big red bus. We cannot wait to see the children develop their sentence construction shaped around the 9 fantastic lenses as we move through the five plot points.
